Well not budgeting for an extra 30m was always going to have some sort of impact.Yep,Alves did a proper number on us.......

However, given Danilo's versatlity, and even though we are having to dig deeper,it may prove a blessing in disguise.

I'd say our budget has been equally affected by not being able to get the expected fees thus far for some of our dead wood such as Hart, Nasri, Bony etc.

um Danilo was basically third choice rb at Real after Carvajal and Nacho. When Carvajal went down with an injury they mostly played Nacho ahead of Danilo. 27mil for a player in a position that we just spent 45 mil on is just crazy.
Why dont you and others let him kick a ball in our side, playing our way with Pep at the helm before deciding he might be shite?

He is far from awful. Just expensive.

If we get the Danilo that was bought from porto by Real i would say the price we pay would be a bargain adding in his versatility as RB/LB/MF if memory serves me he was bought by real for 30 million euros at the time so seems a decent price for me personally.

Oh No, you have said the "Bargain" word to @Dax777 - standby for a bollocking from him :)

I do always wonder why people come on a post stuff that's so obviously wrong, and so provably wrong too.

Anyone who watched some Spanish football or CL could tell you that was bullshit, but it's so easy to just look it up anyway -

Danilo started 21 games at RB last seasons.

Nacho started 1.

"Mostly played Nacho ahead of Danilo" indeed.

Looks like you've owned him there fella.

If we seriously sign him for £25-30m as a back up right back a week after spending £45m on a different right back then the board are a little mad.

I don't think they're mad. I expect he'll be the cheaper more mobile option to Fabinho who everyone on here seems to want so much, 2 footed & able to play in a number of different roles. If he does end up becoming that player for us, and doing his job to a good standard, then £25-30m will be a fair deal, he could essentially be replacing 3 players in Fernando, Clichy & Sagna - I think it's a little silly to be quoting us as spending £30m on a back-up right back before we even know what Pep has in store for the guy; would anyone be moaning if we bought Fabinho for £25-30m to be our back-up RB who could drop into midfield if needed? I doubt it, so why would it be so different to sign Danilo for £25-30m to be our back-up right back (to Walker), who could drop into left-back (behind Mendy (?)), and maybe even midfield (last resort behind Yaya/Gundogan/Fernandinho).

Personally prefer specialists in each position, but we're working with a limited budget, and I can see the sense in buying a guy who's versatile if it means we can save in monetary terms & in terms of squad places.

Let's wait & see if we actually get the guy, and then wait & see what role Pep puts him in, before starting worrying that we're spunking £30m on a back-up right back ey.

I don't think anyone's really worried about spending £26m on another RB, and the fact he's going to play RB, LB and midfield has been covered a lot in this thread and in the press. I think a few are just worried about the fact he's done poorly at Real, and we're gambling on him rediscovering his Porto form.

Even if it were just to be second choice RB, £26m would not be obscene - Spurs are supposedly looking at Perreira for £22m to rotate with Trippier.

Make your mind up is the £26 million quoted, or your revised figure of £30 million?

There were 50 odd pages added so I didn't read through them all of course, saw a few themes, his form at RM & also saw people complaining about the price for a back-up RB (especially on top of his RM form & the price they paid) - but like I said if it's £26m for a guy who ends up taking the role of 3 players then I'm not sure I buy the monetary fearing argument.

The form argument, I'm on the fence with, clearly he was good for Porto, and clearly he wasn't as good as hoped at RM, poor even. I'm always willing to give players a chance, sometimes a change of scenery can kickstart a career back on track - think it's foolish to expect the world from a player & foolish to rule them out before seeing them kick a ball for your team.

Cheers, that's a really useful point you bring up that significantly changes the points I made in the post - I added a range as to not offend either side of the fence of those who like to quote top dollar and those who quote bottom. Seems I still offended someone though. If it's been done at £26m then great, that's in the range I quoted.

I'm not sure how anyone could be offended by your price range, but either way If Gylfi baby goes for £50 million it will look at a bargain.

Anyone who uses to term 'back up' needs to understand the era of football we are playing in and the manger we have at the moment. Football is no longer a game of 11 players and one sub. We will use different players depending on the opposition and the way we want to play. We will never fit Kevin silva silva sane Aguero Jesus Sterling and gundogan in the same team but it doesn't mean any of the above are back up/reserve players. We are looking to compete for four trophies next season and that means both Danilo and walker will play plenty of games. Plus the fact that a competitive squad with who players competing for every position brings the best out of every player.

Seen very little of this guy, think he's pretty tall for a FB (about 6ft) which is handy and by all accounts he's very, very quick... If Pep wants him thats good enough for me...

My God! Honesty and sense in the same post. Don't see too many posts like that. Well done - and on the transfer forum too!
