Dante

I'll always look back at Boateng's time here and laugh... what an absolute joke that was. Didn't he hurt himself on a plane??? He always reminded me of the quiet emotional homesick kid

Is this some kind of joke ? In the most recent game vs Bayern Munich, Dante was being terrorized by none other than Edin Dzeko. This has got to be a joke.

In the first game against Bayern Dante plated an exquisite long ball to Muller to kill the game.

Didn't he do the same in Munich? Obviously didn't kill the game though.

Yeah, was pretty embarassing to get it again. He'd improve the team immediately if he signed, the one thing is his age doesn't fit the profile we'd buy for.

Don't think this will happen. Going off pelligrini's interview earlier today and what he said about nastasic, I question how much potential he see's in him. Not putting him in the first 18 this past weekend makes me think he doesn't rate him as a prospect as good as what we could have. Hard to tell what he's thinking, though... I'd say if he does rate him, we'll splash for someone like dante to teach Nas the ropes for a year or two until he's really ready to step up. If he doesn't rate him, Mangala is coming in... Just how I see it. I do think we are definitely going to be bringing in a left sided center half though with Lescott also moving on

No idea why anyone thinks he's terrible unless they're basing it on the Bayern away game and only that.

Yea and David Luiz's long and short passing is excellent. Doesn't mean his defending is brilliant, does it ?

-- Fri Jan 17, 2014 4:05 pm --

In the Garcia thread you're saying we can sell him without any effect because Kompany can play there.

So all in all silvasleftpeg I don't think my logic and yours are particularly compatible.

Dante is a fine defender, part of easily the best defence in Europe last season.

Fwiw David Luiz is a quite good defender who makes the odd error that is exaggerated by his skill in other areas and his eccentric persona. Lescott, Nastasic, Demichelis probably all make as many errors he does and Luiz would likely improve our team. Arguably the ability to pass long and short is part of "defending" now so the point is moot anyway.

Too old and would demand huge wages, much like Lescott's contract. So younger, cheaper, and hungrier for success, please.

Garcia is irrelevant.

It is your opinion that Dante is a "fine" defender. Don't force your opinion onto others.

-- Fri Jan 17, 2014 6:20 pm --

I completely fail to see how I've "forced my opinion onto others".

I do understand it's a subjective appraisal rather than existential fact, but you know this is a forum and all that so I figured people were aware of that.

As objective proof goes you may find it easier to argue that Dante is a good defender rather than a bad one given his record.
