If true then it's an odd one. Makes you wonder why Bent would sacrifice a top-6 push to go to a team that is effectively battling relegation. I can't imagine the wages on offer being much more than he gets at Sunderland because it's well known that Randy has been looking at trimming Villa's wage bill.

Of course this could form part of a wider picture - Sunderland sell Bent, use some of the cash to buy Welbeck outright to partner Gyan, and Villa sell Ashley Young to help fund the purchase of Bent along with some of the Milner money?
