Dave ''Harry'' Bassett was on the verge of becoming Man City manager, deal fell through at the last second

David Moyes would have been a far better long term choice for City than Keegan.
WHAT? Keegan was fantastic. Football gives us fans memories that we won't forget and King Kev gave us plenty of them. It was a superb appointment at the time as we had gone down after the successive promotions and there was no guarantee we would get straight back up. Keegan gave that energy, impetus, attracted players played brilliant football so we ended up going to the etihad on an absolute high.
But of course like all of us he has clear weaknesses
1. King Kev is always a shot termer - he wasn't going to be with us for 10 years. But its not his fault that when he left the club appointed Pearce who closely beat Beanie in the selection process.

I was upset on the fall out with Berkovic who I loved as a player

Brian Kidd turned the job down too around the same time. He verbally accepted but hadn't told Ferguson. Then Franny rang him to ask why he hadn't done it yet, and then said "Are you sure you are the right man for this job?" which pissed Kidd off so much he ended up changing his mind.

Wasn’t Kidd worried about Ferguson’s reaction which is why Franny said that?

Berkovic Benarbia Sweep, the Keegan era, I loved it

We needed someone to actually build a squad with a view to the long term, including development of the academy.
Typical City decided to appoint someone with a reputation for running off crying when anyone criticised him, and leaving a half-finished job behind him.
It may have been fun while it lasted with Keegan, but it was never going to last long. I wouldn't have touched him with a bargepole for the City job. Moyes was infinitely more suited to the 'project'.
