David Silva - 2016/17 performances

Unbelieveable player that is playing his best football ever imo. He works so hard, isnt afraid to tackle and he dictates everything when he plays deeper. I've always liked him but he's never been amongst my favourite City players, but right now he is challenging Sterling, Aguero and Kompany for that. I really hope he can keep up his form for the rest of the season. If he does that this can become our most successful season ever.

Pep on Silva:

"David is one of the best players I ever trained in my life so I am a lucky guy to be with him."

"One of the reasons why I decided to come here (to City) is because I was pleased to be with him."

"I was in Spain when he was with Valencia. I was in Barcelona and I thought 'Wow! That guy is special'."

Pah, what does he know? Doesn't he realise the resident Bluemoon experts say his days are numbered? Doesn't he realise Silva is yesterday's man since we bought DeBruyne? Did he not read the memo that Silva isn't a Guardiola type player? Did he not take in to account "how long we have to put up with" his sub standard performances?!

Hahaha! Genuine belly laughs at some of the shit that has been spoken about Silva over the last 18 months. There's 3 or 4 posters who should be pretty embarrassed with themselves.

Quite simply the best player ever to play for the club. For me, the most intelligent player ever to play in the Premier League. The best I've seen at dictating games in this league. Ronaldo and Henry were perhaps better individual talents, but Silva's is the best I've seen in the PL at what he does.

He is better CM than winger or left forward in 4-3-3

In his new role this season, he is The Best.

He's shown an incredible development in his performance levels like so many others in the squad. It's quite a sight to behold (especially if you dare to watch back some of last season's aborted phoned in performances from some of the same players!).

The key though has been moving him deeper and taking him out of the attacking "3" so to speak. I was absolutely unconvinced that he could play a deeper role for various reasons but he has stepped up to a level even I thought he couldn't get back to.

I think his new role is leaving him less susceptible to getting clattered and protecting his ankle

He could easily play at this level for another 5 years. His game isn't reliant on pace and his vision and footballing brain is second to none. The deeper role suits him and he dictates the play from there. He could end up being our Pirlo.

Another outstanding performance by Silva,he really does make us tick and we are not the same team without him, we are so lucky to have him playing at our club, hope he is here for another 5 years.

I agree.

He has always been a great footballer but the extra workrate & ball winning he has added this season is something I never expected & he is reinventing himself. And equal credit to Pep. A midfield of Silva, KDB & Yaya would have lost 10-0 to most teams last season. And a front 3 with Silva & KDB is nowhere near as dangerous as the current one.

Silva playing deeper, is transforming the team giving spaces for pace & goals upfront but it also needs the right manager.

I think the deeper role suits him because now when he receives the ball more often than not he is facing the opposition goal. In previous seasons he has been receiving the ball with his back to goal with some neanderthal centre back giving him a clattering. In this position he is getting more time on the ball and he is able to dictate the game. Playing further forward also meant we had to take his goal return into account, which was clearly not good enough for that position however this responsibility now falls on others and we as fans can relax and enjoy his Iniesta (of 3 years ago) type brilliance in the middle of the park.
