David Silva retires from football (pg13)

19 years as a professional footballer he has earned the choice to hang up his boots , one of the great Spanish midfield players of all time alongside the likes of Iniesta , Xavi and Busquets , the difference is Merlin proved himself outside of La Liga.
Hope he enjoys his retirement in Gran Canaria , we were fortunate to be able to watch this guy on a weekly basis in my opinion alongside Colin Bell as our greatest midfield player.

Not just one of spains greatest midfielders.
One of the greatest midfielders ever

Dr Jon Bell just put this on Twitter. His dad's favourite player.

For the majority of our fans, these 2 legends are the best 2 to ever wear the blue shirt. May Colin the King continue to rest in peace, and David have all the success in the world in his next venture.

They have both set the bar very high. Can only be envious of those senior enough to have seen Bell in his prime, and I know young and future blues will feel the same about David.

was lucky enought to watch both players , totally different players but the same influence on the team , Bell was a box to box player who could do everything , pass , tackle ,defend , score goals , create goals and was a constant 8/10 player every game.
Merlin was a sublime player who created , scored and had immense skill and could see a pass no other player in his era could , and could also win a game on his own ,the guy was poetry in motion.
The Rags can have Scholes and Charlton and all the bullshit surrounding that myth of a football club , but these two were better , no doubt.

I'd go as far to say the best midfielder to ever play in the Premier league.
And I'd say the greatest foreign player to ever play in england

I wonder how his little kid is getting on, there were some worrying times early on. Hopefully he is good

David Silva is my favourite and greatest player ever, to adorn @mancity shirt. Not only was he creative, magical and balletic on the ball. With a mass of other superlatives He was never protected by the officials on the pitch in his tenure, he would be fouled after foul, and the refs would just simply ignore it and carry on like there was nowt wrong with how David was taken out of the game. Always reminded me of the 'Red' ref on Jimmy Grimble. I will always be gutted and sad that due to the covid restrictions, we couldn't watch the last season he was with us, and that we couldn't give him the sweetest, loudest and longest goodbye 4now. Gutted that he has had to retire, due to his damage to his knee.
