David Silva retires from football (pg13)

My favourite ever City player, although we're in the enviable position of having many candidates to choose from.

I trawled through YouTube highlights yesterday and enjoyed watching some of those assists and a few goals in there too. But what those videos don't show is how he found space, when there was none, or how he controlled the tempo of every game he played. You really have to see a player live to appreciate that quality, it's so rare, but he had it in abundance.

It was genuinely a privilege to watch him play. Shame he's been forced to retire through injury, but at least that happened at 37 and not when he was in his prime. Enjoy your retirement David and get back to the Etihad next season so we can give you a proper send off!

wonderful player. The very best.

apologies if already posted but then you cant watch him often enough:

Spanish Dave - A genius footballer, the best I've seen in 45+ years of watching the Old Sky Blues. Blessed to have had him at City, especially as we all thought we were getting David Villa ;)

For a long, long time, being old school, I was unwilling to accept that I'd ever seen anyone greater than King Colin. In the end, I willingly accepted it: Merlin was the greatest footballer I've seen in that shirt. His mediocre level, on the rare occasions you saw it, was streets above nearly every other footballer in the PL. I never saw him play a rank bad game. Quiet ones, ones where he wasn't having much of an impact. It's the harshest judgement I could make.
Kev is more dynamic, has astonishing games. But Dave gave us control in game after game, month after month, season after season. And his arrow-straight through balls, splitting the middle of defences, or just inside the opposition full back to the overlapping winger (think Sané!) were things for the ages. Not greedy enough, would have scored more goals — but Sergio was around.
It's not worth starting a separate thread for this, but I thought of starting one, “Who do you miss most from that 2010-2020 team?” Watching the stuff on the OS to mark his retirement, I actually got a bit emotional. For me, it's him. I still miss him.
Would really like the club to invite him back to come out before the k.o. of one of the big games this season, so that we can finally acclaim him and say a proper goodbye to him. Always felt cheated about that.
