David Silva

Which clown said he was finished? A pundit??????
I could not believe the thread title.
What d*ckhead said this?
He has a couple of very good years ahead.
With all our injuries Dave has been forced to play through the pain barrier.
What a great lay off today for the 2nd goal

I'm presuming it was s pundit as its in quotes.

I have always thought Silva is best starting from the wide areas. He then can just drift and is harder to pick up.

I don't think it's about playing wide or centrally, it's more about who's playing alongside him. Teams like to double mark Silva and sometimes it's near impossible for him to find space (particularly when carrying an injury).

De Bruyne is another who gets at least two defenders around him at all times because of how little space he needs to make an impact. Also, at the beginning of the season - when Silva had some fantastic games - defenders clung to Sterling before they later realised we weren't allowing Raheem to play to his strengths.

I don't think it's any coincidence that he played so well today with Kevin back in the team.

There was a massive thread a bit ago on here which I think got locked in the end that was filled with posters all claiming Silva was finished, or that he was shit, or that Pep would boot him out the club as soon as he walked through the door and other such posts. I just found the whole thing not only laughable but hugely disrespectful to one of our best ever players and the fact he's so close to matching his best ever assists in a season despite us playing so shite shows what he can still offer the team. As someone else said if you surround Silva with players on the same wave length like Kev and Aguero he is still one of the best in the world.

I think he's far from finished but his decline has started. Hardly surprising given his age, his ongoing problem with his ankle and the fact he's been kicked to death for the best part of a decade. He hasn't affected games this season when we've needed him to and it's really shown up how reliant we've been on him to do that week in week out for the past few years. Still a great player, but that assist statistic clearly doesn't paint an accurate pictute as he's been way off his consistent best this season.

For me, he's past his peak, but given it was quite a massive peak there's still plenty to offer (even if it's not quite as good as it used to be).

We know Silva has been carrying injuries and playing despite this, due to the lack of cover available.

Alongside other proactive passers he excels, this we also know. But to see that stat in the OP did surprise even me though, makes me think if we'd had a couple less injuries, Vinny and Sammy in more games for example, we'd have been rocking along to the top spot right about now.

But what sometimes is forgotten is the sheer balls he showed in coming to city all these year's ago, and for staying. Big move, he could have gone elsewhere and into established European giants, he chose the harder, colder route. Legend.
