David Silva

For those of you genuine Silva admirers and there are too many to PM..

To allay any slight fears.. David was just genuinely rested yesterday. It's fantastic that KDB & Nasri are now fit and this is an option.

Bring on Tuesday night !

Fantastic news about David Silva, such a gifted and talented footballer. He is a joy to watch.

For me kevin will play as a orward, not a no10. He is incredible in the final 3rd and is as lethal as sergio. Could a midfield of gindogan, poggers and silva work?

I will cry if he's left out, given time to rest and then sold anyway. Really want to see him play another season fully fit under a world class manager.

Not sure whether he will be left out of the Spain squad judging from the rather inept performances of other players (e.g. Isco and Mata) in recent friendlies. Don't know if it is a good thing or not for his physical health. But I'll probably be in shock (and tears) if he were sold this summer. Pep most likely won't treat us that badly though.

Agreed. However, I'll begrudgingly take a summer of being treated badly if it means three years of bliss.

Given how many players we should be looking to move on this summer, if we get as far as selling Dave we'll be looking to buy nearly a whole new squad!

it'd be a terrible decision to sell Dave, it's not like we have a near-world class bench right now so it wouldn't make sense to sell IMHO.

Silva still can do a decent job for us. He just needs to be rested much like Iniesta at Barcalona or Xavi was as they age. Silva can do the job of what Thiago does at Bayern in the midfield. Pep doesn't bomb his fullbacks up so they cover more defensively. A midfield 3 with Gundoguan, Silva and Dinho could work assuming we have good fullbacks who play like Lahm or Alaba.

Hurts just thinking about Dave getting sold, but it would have to be a big number wouldn't it?
Lots of areas to improve, surely his spot would be low on the shopping list?
I'm excited about the new era coming along....
But it's going to hurt.

if Silva accepts being rotated next season a bit more than he is used to, until/if he plays himself back to form, then there's no way we will sell but if he demands 1st team start then im not sure Pep will go with that.

Have either of you got the impression over the last 6 year that he is the type of player to throw a hissy fit and demand to be starting as soon as a new coach arrives?

His dream is to play for his childhood club Las Palmas, he's said plenty of times that's the only place he wants to go so he can emulate his hero Valeron. I expect he'll be here another couple of years and then go, no matter how much he plays.

I've seen him looked pissed when subbed. And a players reaction when he is worshipped and first name on the sheet versus when considered a sub can be quite different. Silva has not had a reason to throw a fit. Every manager, management personnel and fan consider him an Icon. And his performance has supported such a status. So in truth there has never been cause for him to throw a fit. This is the 1st season his had poor enough performances that the coach considered subbing him as a tactical move as opposed to a resting move. And he didn't seem pleased in the 2 occasions it happened. As any proud superstar would.

If Silva believes he is still able to excel every game, he is not gonna take kindly to being a role player. Most superstars dont. And he is one. If he thinks age an Injury are becoming a factor ( and he sees the value in saving himself for big games and rotating) then he'd stay.

Personally i think we should wait till his ankle is better. His game is easy to replicate up to 35 if he keeps fit in general.
I think talk of a rotation player or any other talk is far to premature atm and only wild speculation.

I think he will be humble and smart enough to know when he may have lost an edge and tow the line, he seems to much of a pro not to.
Any top player i see get taken off is not exactly jumping for joy, indeed non are with Dave though he seems to stripped of ego and self interest to start being pissy.

He's never complained about a side role in the spanish squad.

That's coz he was never the top dog at National team level, Iniesta and Xavi were. He was their sidekick. Here, he is the top dog. So it's a different mental state.

Not gonna write Merlin off yet , i believe his ankle injury issues have had a massive effect on his form this season , unfortunately he wont get the rest needed in the summer because of the Euro's , but a 100% fit Merlin is still the best midfield player in the Premiership , age isnt a concern , he does not rely on pace , he is yards ahead of most players in his head , Hopefully Pep will utilise his many attributes to great effect for the next few seasons , but if he did leave in the summer , it would leave a massive whole in our squad , how the f*ck do you replace Merlin ?
