David Silva

plenty of times , hes shite at them

I remember he hit the bar with a free kick when Bayern turned us over at home a couple of years ago. Can't remember him scoring for us with a free kick, whereas Kolarov and Yaya have scored plenty.

It might have only been 45 minutes vs South Korea but his performance was outstanding as well. Its hard for me to imagine that a player so versed in the Spanish national team's way of playing won't fit in with Pep. He looks to have shaken off that injury too which is fantastic.

This is my thoughts exactly - if he was not a city player and was available we would all be saying he is a perfect fit for a Pep midfield. He is a great technical player and has a great attitude / top profesional and obviously speaks Spanish and English. He just ticks all the boxes for Pep. The only question is his fitness and ability to play 2 games a week. I think he will be a key player for us next year but i see him being rotated a lot more as he gets older.

I don't care if he is bad at tracking back. We will have 60%+ possession in most of the matches and players will keep their position much better under Pep.

Me neither. Though he scored some in my FM, and penalties as well;)

It is a constant problem, he simply has a weakness in his ankles. It's a reoccurring problem, one that may be due to his playing style. His ability to turn on the proverbial sixpence is incredible, but sadly it's also become apparent this season that he is no longer able to like he has in the past.
After Pellegrini's words in his interview, lets hope Silva can get back to full fitness and form.

But sadly I think we have seen the best of him.

Well you can say that. It is inevitable that the ligaments and tendons become a bit weaker after ankle injuries. There may also be formation of scar tissues. That's why previous ankle injuries is a major risk factor of subsequent ankle sprains. Plus you are right in saying that his playing style makes it easier for recurrence, which is not helped by his refusal of wearing ankle straps. A year ago I still thought he had chronic ankle problems, but not now. If he's under constant pain or that his ankle gave way frequently, say once a month, or that he had constant apprehension of his ankle "giving way" when running on uneven surface, then there is no way he could have played frequently, let alone put in season after season of excellent performance, unless he had super-human tenacity. He would probably have spent a substantial amount of time on the sidelines, like Vicente.

Was a bit confused at seeing him unable to do the turns (la pelopina). Somehow I thought he injured his left ankle when it should be the right lol. Silly me. Now it makes sense. For if his right ankle hurt, he should not be able to use it as a pivot and turn. But anyways, against Korea the trademark turns returned, though seemingly less effortless than before. Still, it seems to be major progress. Brilliant freekick and good overall performance btw.

I think this is the thing his boo-boys are overlooking. Pep Guardiola is our manager. No team is going to come out and attack us. No team is going to try and take us on and leave a load of space behind them.

They're all going to sit back on the edge of their box, defend for their lives and try to hit us on the break. We need players with intricate, eye of the needle passes to break down stubborn defences. Players who never lose the ball cheaply because it's too risky to give away possession cheaply in a high line attacking Guardiola team.

In possession there's aren't many players in world football more suited to a Guardiola team than David Silva.

Out of possession he needs to work hard and keep his shape, and I fully expect him to once he has been drilled on the training ground.

Well said ! That's why Silva will remain our most important player in midfield, even more than KDB in my opinion.

Cant remember him scoring many free kicks for us if any? Does he even ever take them?

Hit the bar against Bayern a few years back with a belter. Don't think he's gotten much of a look in with Tevez, Yaya, Aleks and now Ginger Kev about. It's the penalties you don't want him taking though.
