David Villa........again!

Man City linked to striker Villa

Striker Villa missed the Euro 2008 final because of injury
Valencia have confirmed they have held talks with Manchester City over the transfer of striker David Villa.

The 27-year-old was a key member of the Spain squad that triumphed at Euro 2008 and is Valencia's most valuable asset.

The Spanish side are in financial trouble and have conceded they may have to sell Villa to ease their concerns.

But vice-president Fernando Gomez told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser that City had not made an offer for a player who would cost a "significant amount".

When Gomez was asked if Valencia chiefs had met with two representatives from Manchester City regarding the sale of Villa, he added: "Yes, it's true but they didn't make us an any offer.

"The president Vicente Soriano asked for a significant amount and they didn't agree."

606: DEBATE
Would Villa be a good buy for Manchester City?
No price tag was revealed but Gomez did confirm that despite Valencia's precarious financial predicament, Villa and fellow Spain star David Silva would not be allowed to go for a reduced price.

"I think they are two very important players, with a lot of quality and if we sell them, we are not going to sell them on the cheap," stated Gomez.

"I would like them both to stay but we cannot discard anything and any of them [the players] could leave at the end of the season."

The skilful Villa has been a target for other Premier League clubs, with Liverpool and Chelsea both linked with bids in recent seasons.

In January, Manchester City failed in a bid to take AC Milan's Brazilian playmaker Kaka to Eastlands and also recently denied rumours linking them to Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

Dont get me wrong Game, like Fat, i would love egg on my face on this one, but just a few weeks ago, the Kaka deal was done/not done/done/not done etc and that has left a bit of a scar. I certainly see the possibilities due to the current circumstances Valencia are in but i would also say that teams like Real and Barca seem to find money if they decide to go for a player.

So i cant get too excited over more press reports even when they appear to hold some weight.[/quote]

I know that the Kaka deal left me feeling really empty but it was worst for me i was in mexico at the time thinking that any deals would be done after i came back but no this Kaka deal kicked off and i was stuck in a hotel room for 6 days due to one of our party falling very ill and needed to be in a ICU in mexico so all i had to go on was the only english channel which was bbc world news and there headline didnt change for 12 hrs at a time there were spainsh channels but i couldnt understand the ramblings

so yes i am excited about the CHANCE to sign VIlla but i will never get like i did when i thought KAKA was on the way

Little bit worried this could be a ploy by Valencia to drag other interested parties into a bidding war .

Why else would they announce that negotiations are taking place .

sounds like city are being used for such things nowadays, ala the 'dihno saga..

Hopefully he either signs with us or Barca (so we can have eto'o)

The impression I got was that we enquired in January?

So is this a new bid?

It wont happen. I wish it would but it wont.

I read it in the same way, that this was discussions in January and that we couldnt agree a price.

Hopefully we'll go back in for him in the summer.

Ok heres my two penneth .. although this deal is a long way off we can take heart from certain things, as we know valencia are broke and were not, they are so broke the players are not being paid and no matter who you are you will only stay someplace and not get paid for so long, yes footballers are uber welathy but with that comes an expensive lifestyle to maintaine, valencia face facts that they will not survive if they do not generate money, money only a select few have and an even more select few can pay in one lump sum.. we may not be the most attractive club right now but we do have the media spotlight on us and we do have robinho who is still a beaken for our intent . this has the right ingredients to be a goer so we shall see... either way im beaming simply at the prospect of my beloved blues being mentioned in the same sentence as real, barca etc ....BLUE ARMY !!!!!!!!!!
