While I'm not saying "we have loads of money sod the resale value", if the right player comes along then resale isn't the priority. Not every player we sign can be in their early 20's and if the right one comes along with champs league experience then so be it if they are late 20's. Xavi is 31 but I'd take him here in a shot....from this thread it seems people are dismissing players over about 28 if they have a high price tag.

Why not?

There are younger strikers as good as Villa (2 at our club already), why don't we look at them.

Tevez is up there, villa is a better player though. You must be joking if you're trying to claim Balotelli or Dzeko are on the same level as Villa.

Balotelli has the potential and Dzeko is pretty much as good a goalscorer as Villa.

You talk some shite. Balotelli has the potential to be good but best in the world, thats yet to be seen. There is no way you could say Dzeko is as good a goalscorer as villa, Dzeko is closer to Jo than Villa.

I just feel you need a mix and it's unrealistic to think every signing or player in our squad is going to be in their early 20's. Having a few older ones will not harm. Infect having someone like Villa should raise Dzeko and Balotelli's game. I'm still not convinced Tevez will stay so as a replacement you can't ask for much more than Villa.

Unfair comparison really considering their respective ages

Dzekos goal scoring record speaks for itself

Balos got a long way to go but could be one of the best in the world

Time as always will tell

I laughed when I read this because it seems like you have totally proven him wrong but on the contrary, Bosnia & Herzegovina is hardly much competition for Spain. Dzeko will be lucky to ever play in a World Cup.

-- Sun Jun 19, 2011 9:50 pm --

I meant goalscoring record:

Villa (at the age of 25) had scored

38/80 @ Gijon
32/73 @ Zaragoza
41/71 @ Valencia

12/24 for Spain

Giving him a total of 123/248 (ratio of 0.49)

Dzeko (before he came to us)

16/43 @ Teplice
66/111 @ Wolfsburg

17/37 for Boznia

Giving him a total of 99/191 (ratio of 0.51)

So at the same age their record is almost identical. So why on earth would we want to sign the old one and inhibitit the up and coming one. It's ridicuous.
