Fuck, it makes me feel old when the OP doesn't really know who he is! No offence CTID, just the way you worded it suggests you weren't around in those days?

He was without doubt my favourite player growing up as a kid. Fast as fuck, is the only way to describe him. Unfortunately I also have a bit of a negative memory of him, though no fault of White's. Remember his debut for England v Spain? (Ironically England played in Sky Blue in that game), well I was in 4th year at that time and it is the only time in my life I have ever been hit in the face. It was from some big bastard who didn't even go to our school. He, (flanked by his mates), came up and said 'you got a light?' I said 'no mate'. to which he produced a plank of wood and said 'whats your fookin problem?', then SMACK, lights went out! I sat in bed that night, thinking the world had come to an end until I realised the England match was on tele, and White made his debut!

At 6ft 5 and no fewer than 18 stone, i'd love to bump into that little bastard now!

Oh, I saw White on the xmas markets about 3 years ago and he is HUGE.

My absolute hero when growing up. I even had the spikey hair cut to copy him!
Met him a few weeks ago at a do we had for the 5-1 and he's a top guy.

Paul Simpson was a little earlier if I remember correctly (but given my track record on this thread, I wouldn't count on it)! I'm pretty sure he got transferred in about 1986, so the right wing spot around this time would have been taken by Rick Holden! Which explains me standing on the kippax screaming at our left winger to shift his fat arse!

Rick Holden was as slow & as shit as David White was fast & effective.

Simmo played in the 10-1 when White got a Hatrick... but you are right that he left, we had Hughes (better than Giggs my arse) for a short while and then Tricky Ricky Holden... so slow but they couldnt get it off him at times, remember Coventry away he tore them apart as we came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2... still you are right he had 2 gears, slow and stop (he had super fast Terry Phelan over lapping/ getting to the ball before him despite giving him a 20 yard start)

"Na na naaaa na, na na naaaaa na, wheeeee-hey, its Ricky Holden"

Please would you come & sit with me at matches from now on & explain what's going on - my brain appears to have melted! PMSL!!

You are of course correct though. I think the Huddersfield game was at the back end of 1987, so it must have been 1988 that Simmo was sold.

Loved David White but he used to pee me off when he went to head the ball.

He had a way of jumping and crouching down at one and the same time, so that even when his feet left the floor his head never seemed to get any higher than his standing height. :-)
