Dawn Butler MP

Always have to laugh at posts like this where it’s unequivocally stated that the alternative to Johnson would have been far worse. How many more tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths would you have expected and how many more billions would have been wasted on paying for things that were not fit for purpose. How much worse a Brexit deal would we have had. Worse than one we are already trying to renegotiate? How much closer to the disintegration of the U.K. and the end of peace in NI would any alternative have taken us? I’ll take a bit of bland competence over colourful buffoonery and criminal incompetence any day of the week. That doesn’t make me a Corbyn fan by the way, that fucker is complicit in giving us Johnson by being the useless twat that he is, but I can’t honestly say he would be a worse PM because it would be practically impossible.

As someone who really dislikes Labour I can still say with certainty that less people would have died under their control, considerably less.

I still find it difficult to understand how the police managed to ascertain that the vehicle was from Yaarkshire, when, according to the ANPR information on the internet, it tells me that the camera (be it on a gantry or inside the police vehicle) optically scans the vehicle's number plate and AUTOMATICALLY provides the information from the PNC. This is what the"A" stands for in the acronym. There is therefore no requirement for the police officer to input ANY data into the system - it does it and displays it itself! Watch any "Police Interceptors" or "Traffic Cops" episode and this is borne out on every programme.
The excuse about "human error" is both incorrect and disingenuous in the extreme.
Bluntly, it's bollocks.
Even if it was from Yorkshire is that really a good enough reason to get pulled up?
As you say, there’s no way that a computer system with the correct data entered will provide a wrong answer one minute and the correct answer a minute later. The police had to be lying about the reason for pulling her up, and even if true it is absolutely not a valid justification. Dawn Butler had every reason to ask the questions she did and no way could it be described as accosting the police.

Yes there are doubts / credibility issues over the response from the police but they do sometimes have a point and maybe do not want to go into the full reasons for any particular stop. Obviously tricky evading those reasons when they pull someone with the whit and wisdom to call them on it and pursue them.
An example being, I had not long moved over to NI when I came back over on the ferry, still with a car with a "mainland number plate", as opposed to a NI registered and issued vehicle. Straight off the ferry I was pulled by "Special Branch"...and was given that reason. Obviously in my case it related to security concerns coming from NI.
In Dawns case...more power to her for calling people to account. In all walks of life we should always be answerable to someone.....and with that I must go and make the wife a cuppa!

Some of the replies in this thread make me wonder if they would be as critical of Dawn Butler Brent if she was the same colour as her metropolitan name suggests.

The whataboutary to dismiss her proves what this government has normalised nastiness and hate.
A recurring theme , rashford and Butler abused for feeding hungry kids and calling a liar a liar , seems a constant somewhere . And forget the blue tinted glasses for once .

Thanks for reply.
I am of the mind that Covid has brought home to me just how similar political personalities are.
Seems they all went to the same Universities the same apprenticeship in local council and the same understanding that they are promoted to HOC by allowing themselves to be told how to vote.
Where is the diversity of class or background?

If I am honest the real crunch came when my older age group were apparently sacrificed as Covid struck, the start of my fears about political figures.
Er, Starmer...

Working class parents, passed 11 plus, went to a selective grammar school (that went independent rather than become part of the comprehensive system), went to Leeds University (maybe not the partying university it became), no local council service, just 20 years as a defence lawyer before DPP, aged 52 before he was elected MP...

Completely done for retweets and shares, can say whatever she wants outside the chamber but did it inside knowing she would get thrown out and the video would go viral.

Same as that video of her accosting those police when someone pulled the car she was in over.

Trying to Americanise the politics and discourse, embarrassing to see people lapping it up.

6th form stuff.
I'm presuming you want not to hear the point she was making (that Johnson is a liar), but at least admit that it got your attention and her saying it "outside the chamber" wouldn't have.

You can say much more in the chamber than you can outside. Parliamentary privilege affords MP’s speaking in the House to speak freely without fear of legal action on the grounds of slander, and contempt of court.

As for the video of Butler ‘accosting‘ the police, I assume you mean when they accosted her and pulled over the car she was in for ’driving with reg plates registered in Yorkshire’.

The Met weaselled out by blaming ‘human error’ on their part, but yeah, let’s blame the black woman.
Johnson isn't going to take legal action against anyone for calling him a liar.

He did get the courts to say his lies (over Brexit) are acceptable in a political campaign.

“There is no precedent for any office holder being prosecuted for misconduct in public office for wilfully making or endorsing a misleading statement in and for the purposes of political campaigning". So that's alright.

Well of course they wouldn't want to go into the full reasons if it was racial profiling. Good grief, driving while black in London and from Yorkshire - very suspicious.

I can't see Special Branch stopping every non NI plated car off the ferry. You're not black or from Yorkshire, are you?

I think she’s perfectly fine to make the point in an interview or any other platform.

But what she’s done there is drag the discourse in parliament through the mud for hits on social media.

I don’t see how anyone with any sense can look at how America is tearing itself apart and think our politics needs to be more like that.

Literally not a single one of these gaslit apologists have made even a single attempt to address a single one of the lies she brought up. Not one. That says everything. They don’t even care. Their posh boy clown sneers at foreigners, women and gays, he brought them their Brexit, is a bit of a laugh and a good boozer and shagger. He can lie and cheat as much as he wants because they are fundamentally the same themselves and so they forgive him. That’s the tragic truth I’m afraid. Like the USA, we have bred far too many people who are too dumb to think for themselves or who don’t give a shit about anybody but themselves and now these are the people calling the shots about the country’s future.
