De Bruyne injury - Back in Training (p89)

This is a little worrying to be honest.

Last year I suffered the same injury on the LCL. It's a ligament that can let you think it's healed only to go again.

We have the best doctors so must trust in them, but I'd hate to see him rush back only for it to mean he's at 70% all season because he didn't give it a few extra weeks.

But if he's 100%, fantastic.
Hopefully he's had better treatment than a pack of frozen peas.

Shame he'll just miss the Liverpool game but Bernardo has proved to be an adequate replacement. What a boost to have a fresh KDB returning just as the fixtures start coming thick and fast.

Great news

No need to rush him back and Belgium can fook off

this

if city rush him back at weekend then has to be picked for Belgium and we don't need that, so looking at the bigger picture its just a media hype before the big liverpool game and mind games getting into liverpool plans will he or wont he play, so light training and getting some building up and fitness, buts great news just seeing him training, and we have missed him and who ever says we did not are lairs, top draw player and is the best in europe by a country mile so who can we have not miss him??

Weirdly it may actually help.

KDB is amazing at delivering killer balls through a defence but the very nature of his passes mean that they frequently are intercepted.

Whilst him being absent may dim our attack slightly, it may help improve ball retention against them as B.Silva rarely loses a ball either in possession or when passing.

That’s actually very true.

I think we will get a massive dividend later in the season from him getting a 3 month break.

Give him until mid November to get match sharp and I think he'll be on another level to anyone else in the league through Christmas and January.

Any team in the world would miss a player of kevs calibre he's the best midfielder in the world.

Its true. Take any teams best player out and they will be a lot weaker. Everyone worries that we are then a 1 man team but it isn't the case. Its just what happens when you lose someone so good.
Chelsea - Hazard
Salah - Liverpool
Barca - Messi
PSG - Neymar
Look at Madrid now without Ronaldo.

Yeah, if we could cope with his absence it was always going to be helpful later in the season, he's one of the only top players who will have had a proper rest this season.

Man United-Fellani

I reckon it'd be more Van Dijk than Salah for Liverpool. They'd be fucked if they had to play Lovren for months

I agree, though, we do also lose a bit on the defensive side when he is out, as well.

He is obviously one of the best players in the world in attack, but he also contributes quite a lot on the other side of things through grit and guile. Bernardo works very hard (see his distance travelled statistics for proof), as well, but I think Kevin is slightly better at tackling and midfield positioning. There is a reason most people consider him one of the best all-around midfielders in the world, after all.

I think we gain and lose different things with Kevin and Bernardo but, as both are world class in their own way, I don’t think either have been or will be the cause for issues we experience against Liverpool—that is usually down to tactics and/or performances elsewhere on the pitch. I hope Pep and his team have finally devised tactics that negate the counter attacking thrust that has most often been our undoing at Anfield (I do not count the mistakes/mental lapses among the things Pep needs to fix as there is not much he can do there).

All of that said, I am very glad to have Kev back in the fold, especially for our run of fixtures after the international break. As @domalino said, this layoff could be a blessing in disguise, especially if we (generally) complete the successful negotiation of these set of games while he was out.

Bernardo played well in the league game last year (coming on as I recall in place of Sterling) and scored a goal that got us back in the game.

KOMPANY: Its difficult to quanitify how much of a loss (@DeBruyneKev has been). He is one of the best midfielders, we get more goals and assists with him. Luckily we have players to fill the gap. He has a huge presence and you dont find it anywhere else in football.
