De Bruyne?

With Wolfsburg coming out and saying they've had no offers for De Bruyne yet.....anyone surprised Txiki hasnt put in a bid to test the water? A bit like they did with Sterling.....or do we think this could be a one bid, get the deal done type of tranfer? Unless we waiting to see what other teams are offering...

I said "so far". There's obviously still a lot of business to be done with players going and hopefully coming, but if Txiki's biggest dissapointment end up being that Delph bottled a medical, then it could be the best transfer window since the takeover IMO.

The caveat of 'so far' is obviously key. If he signs both KDB and Pogba with a few weeks to get to know the team before the season starts, then he will have done brilliantly.

I would suggest he has done OK so far. We can only deal with facts. We bid for Sterling about 3 weeks ago, yet have only just completed and ended up paying the asking price - I'm not sure this is 'playing a blinder'. It's fine, though.

I guess we can judge properly in a couple of weeks time, though. The season is less than a month away - I would imagine we want players in by the end of next week/the Wednesday of the following week? Not sure how realistic that is.

Mirror: City have launched a €57m offer for Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne which is expected to be rejected. Wolfsburg want closer to €70m

Is it just me who doubts we have put a bid in and expect it to be rejected? Even from a basic negotiation stand point would that not just piss off the selling club and make them more determined to hold onto the player. Look at the Dzeko transfer rumors and the uproar it has caused from users as Roma are seen to be offering a stupidly low amount for him.

Well, we did bid £25m + £5m for Sterling first, which considering the rate HG prices are, was bit on the low side. So I wouldn't be surprised if we have bid "low" again.

Don't see the point in bidding low, unless we are certain it will get us somewhere in terms of negotiation stance.

It got us nowhere with Sterling. We want the players asap really.

Sterling - Euro is £1=€1.40 or thereabouts atm so £50m, the offer is bollocks, we haven't offered £40.714m

€57m is £39.82.

It's a £40m bid, which seems very likely, about his 10 below asking price, good place to start bidding.

"Top players like Kevin De Bruyne won't stay at Wolfsburg forever. Everybody dreams of one day playing for a leading international club.

"It was the same with me after we won the league in 2009 -- I had the desire to do something different."

"He's supposed to be a prospect for us in Manchester," Dzeko wrote. "Kevin has an advantage. Through his time at Chelsea he knows the Premier League and knows that it's completely different.

"A lot of players who excelled in other leagues have had problems here -- take Angel Di Maria.

"I'm certain that [Kevin] has what it takes to play for one of the top clubs in Europe but he's also aware that at these clubs there are 20 top players who always want to be on the pitch.

"Maybe it would also help him if he plays in the Champions League with Wolfsburg this season and takes another step in his development there."

Not exactly encouraging him to join us is he?

Hi silva....rumours were we put in a 25mil plus add ons bid for Sterling expecting it to be rejected.....if thats true, I wouldnt be surprised if we put in this bid as a starting point to open talks with the club..

In 7 months his price has gone up from £20m (see page 1 of this thread) to £50m !!
Definitely a shortage of young quality players available which could explain the huge increase in prices now being asked or are we being taken to the cleaners every time?

after the chairmans words I somehow expected our business to be rapid and positive I was slapped down after we signed Raheem because of my uncertainty regarding Txiki but I still think he has a lot to do to make it a good transfer window I am sure Pellers would preferred all business if possible to be achieved before the tour however I do know with agents third party owners and image rights it isn't easy but some transfers are negotiated before the end of last season

You need to remember that PSG and Bayern are also interested, which obivously shoots the price up.

It works both ways you know, there's a long way to go, and I'm sure we'll see more incomings and a few outgoings. Ultimately we won't know till next May if it was good or bad.
correct, but I don't see how Txiki has played a blinder up to now?

How do you know we're trying to offload anyone, other than rumours and presumptions of course?

'Losing' Delph wasn't exactly a setback, we wanted him no doubt for his energy, and the fact he's English. He knew he'd just be a squad player, and seeing rumours on the players were potentially looking at, he obviously thought better about it and stayed at Villa. I commend him on that to be honest, he would've got a pay rise coming to City, but he wouldn't have played every week, or at least it would've been a huge struggle to do so. He's decided to stay at a club that is trying to build, and not jump ship. I liked him more after the decision, and I doubt Txiki could've done more to bring him in, short of lying his arse off.

So you interpret Txiki failing to close a move for, and in fact being rejected by, a target as "playing a blinder", because you don't rate said target? Wish I was so easily pleased.

And I should hope we are trying to offload a few players, otherwise we must surely break a record as being the first team ever not to sell a player in a summer transfer window (especially given how poor some performed last season).

Put another way, if the window shut now and we stuck with what we have, would you be happy with our transfer activity?
