It's hard to put his fee into context but it's not that ridiculous if you look at our other targets. Is he roughly just as valuable as Sterling? I would argue yes, and is he within 20 mil of Pogba? Again i think the answer to that is yes. Great talent and would be worth the money if he has half the season he had last year considering he's not going to be THE MAN here.

50 million is very pricey. Not my money though.

It's steep but Wolfsburg are bankrolled by VW so there's no real pressure on them to accept a lower bid unless the player kicks up a fuss.

Why should Wolfsburg, a wealthy club, not ask £50m or so for a player who smashed the all-time Bundesliga assists record last season? Perspective: The all conquering Bayern Munich team has never had a player who matched De Bruyne's assist tally. Oh, and he scores plenty of goals too. And has good crossing and set-piece delivery. Just pay what it takes or we could always go looking for a player who is maybe 15% worse. Those fine margins will show in the bigger games.

Arsenal paid £35m for Sanchez last summer, and I think he's a better player than De Bruyne. To spend over €70m on a 24 year old, he should already be world class, and I don't think De Bruyne has proven that yet. It's all well and good saying that Sheikh Mansour has unlimited funds, but he still wants to club to be profitable. Saying "fuck it, just pay what they want" is fine once, but then you say the same again for Sterling, and again for Pogba, and suddenly you're spending £40-50m more than you budgeted for and affecting how much you can spend in future transfer windows. With Sterling I get it, because it's not often and Englishman comes along that could be a key player in our team. Anyway, hopefully this is bullshit and they'll settle for something closer to the £30m mark.

I'd say 100m for Sterling + De Bruyne is a damn good platform to build on for our future. Arguably a wiser expense than 80m on Pogba, but that wouldn't hurt either!
