De Bruyne?

I know these big transfers take a while to go through and appreciate that Wolfsburg didn't need or want to sell him, but it seems as if he has got more expensive each passing week.

I remember towards the end of last season when the rumours started that we were being quoted £35m to buy him....and at the time thinking "bloody hell, that seems a lot, considering they only bought him for £18m a year ago".....then a month later it was £40m.....then £45m.....and so on....and now it's apparently going to be around £57m.

How the fuck does this happen?!?

That is the drawback when you do all your negotiating with the player first, put so much effort into the background work and 'due dilligence' etc....that the club then knows you're basically committed, so will eseentially pay whatever the fuck they ask for. It happened with Sterling, is happening with KDB and potentially with Pogba. The selling club knows you have gone balls deep for someone so aren't going to waste all that effort for the sake of 5 or £10m.
I wonder if this is ffp related. As we can spread the fee over the contract ie an extra 10 million spread over 5 years would only be 2 million a year. However the wages especially given the lower basic higher bonus needs to be right for both parties.

@scarty10 It is pretty easy, KDB has a contract until 2019. Excellent player + long contract + rich club = high fee. It was always obivous that he would cost 60Mio€+

Aguero
Hazard/Silva/DeBruyne
Matic/Toure

Easy pickings really, that team would rival or exceed barca at their best.

For balance that's probably the correct mix. Fernandinho gives a lot more in terms of all round game than Matic though and I think he has been quite poor so far this season. Against us on Sunday he was very easy to negate where last season he was a rock. Seemed to be ambling around the pitch rather than really hassling our attacking players as usual.

I think Chelsea are suffering from the sheer number of games their key players started last season. When you don't rotate that's what happens. This season is an added mental challenge for them and they're failing so far. Its similar to our drop in form last season after a mammoth 2013/14 and world cup year.

Without doubt our side is better for the addition of Sterling, better balance and more for opposition to think about. De bruyne does the same the other side, we will be a very tough proposition.

So? Who cares? Firstly you're wrong about sterling. Liverpool had said 50m from the day he rejected his contract in December.

And de Bruyne has performed to a level where something like 50m isn't robbery. He's performed as well if not better than James Rodriguez who cost 63m and better than Di Maria who was 59 and older.

There are only a couple of footballers in Europe who will improve our starting XI. Obviously we are going to have to pay for them.

We're getting a world class player at 24. In 5 years time the idea we paid 50m for him will be seen as good business. It's not you're money, as long as the club can afford it and it doesn't stop us from doing any other transfers then why does it matter?

And the Pogba deal was fucked by the image rights being owned by a third party. Nothing to do with Juventus at all.

I completely agree, and for some reason it missed off the last line that I typed, which was....

Oh well, just glad it isn't money....so as it is, it doesn't bother me in the slightest :)

....and I'm also not saying they are not worth it....but it just seems strange how a player's value goes up £5m every few days without kicking a fucking ball. I guess I just don't like other clubs taking the piss out of us and adding on extra just because they can.

WAZ reporting that De Bruyne to City is done. Honingstein say they're as reliable as it gets on Wolsburg matters, and have close to a perfect strike rate. They don't trade in rumours.

€80m, €16m per season wages, 5 year deal.

Absolutely insane fee

As against €50m for Andy Carroll in 2011.
