De Bruyne?

I'm not so sure when it comes to the big signings. Valdez, Falcao, and Di Maria were significant failures last year, I can see the german following the same route, and if Real really want De Gea they'll get him eventually, as he wants to go. There's another 6 weeks yet, but I'm not convinced they'll be significantly better off, if we get all our targets, they won't be challenging us.

I hope this one in particular gets done, I think it gives us greater variety, not just in terms of player, but in flexibility of playing style.

Theyve given Navas the number 1. Think theyll wait until next year for De Gea.

Challenging for 4th, to challenging for a title. That is a quantum leap, isn't it?

Their squad is out of sync and I think that they are 2/3 quality signings away from a challenge.

De Bruyne is crucial. It would balance both flanks for us, that was a massive weakness last year.

I think they'll do about the same or better, but with a caveat that the very thing that has made them both special and have the ability to dominate has taken another season of attrition.

Have no doubt they've improved on the short term. My issue is that they've sacrificed their future to do so over the past 2 years and continue to do so

Very good point in your earlier post about placing an accountant in charge of player acquisition - it is a strangely inept version of the DoF and coach model

The lessons of many organisations is that there is a need for specialist people in specialist roles and surely we hit the jackpot getting the Spanish lads in. Woodward did a great job for the Glazers in driving up commercial revenues but why should that qualify him for the wider strategic role?

On transfers surely he is shopping where players are available - which means that they are perhaps past their sell-by date and may not necessarily fit into a playing style and strategy. For the big deals like Pogba I am guessing there is a need for someone with the contacts and who knows how to persuade and surely Txiki demonstrates this in the way (I assume) that he is going about the Pogba, KDB and previously Sterling acquisition - persuading the agents and getting the deal done first behind the scenes before going the formal process with the club - I hope the scum become a mish-mash of ill-fitting fading stars
