De Bruyne?

Why have we not put a bid in yet?

It's absolutely unfathomable.

It's a week to go until the season starts for fuck's sake. . .

Maybe we are negotiating with Wolfsburg to set a figure, & unlike Liverpool, they don't brief the press on every discussion.
Had no indication that we are in negotiations. Wolfsburg keep on saying he isn't for sale and De Bruyne is basically saying "come and get me".

I''d go along with the negotiation angle too if Wolfsburg hadn't said a fair few things to the press that implied we weren't in discussions. I mean, it could be smoke and mirrors of course...

Completely agree. I thought that's what the DoF role is supposed to bring, rather than a Manager, a longer term vision for the team by blending the current squad with new signings and promoting academy/development players.

So far I've not seen Txiki promote our youngsters into the first team, apart from a few showings last season.

Maybe they weren't quite ready last season, but I agree one or two need to make that transition this year to start building up Premier League experience.

That's the manager's job. It was spelled out at the start that the manager is in charge of tactics & team selection, with no outside interference.

If Pep was definitely coming in next year, we wouldn't risk not winning the league, and slipping up by finishing 4th/5th by not signing players and treading water for a year - but maybe (and I doubt it, but maybe) he's said he doesn't like KDB, and that's why Bayern haven't gone for him, and maybe he's had a look at a list of other players we're after and OK'd them instead so we've moved on?

I hope our club is in a better position than pinning all hopes on Pep Guardiola and what he says. We'll be making signings for the future this summer. Mangala was seen as a long term defensive signing, Denayer has been an added bonus. We've sent a left back on loan hoping he can join in next season. Delph has been added to address home grown quota and is only 25. Sterling... best young english talent out there. If we add De Bruyne and Pogba we have a younger squad and a more talented one as well.

De Bruyne's talent is there for all to see and I'd hope that Guardiola isn't having an impact on our signings yet. When he joins the club fine, but until then we should be looking at who is available for this season and beyond and he's a player we could very much do with as Silva's not going to be around forever.

When you read the whole interview as written on Goal.com, Kevin doesn`t brand himself with a 50M transfertag as snipps suggest. As I interpret it, the transfer is possible.

The Belgian says he will not start creating problems and insists he will not be returning to the Premier League in order to prove himself after his spell at Chelsea

Kevin De Bruyne insists he will not force Wolfsburg to sell him but admits he can’t ignore interest from Manchester City.

Goal understands that City are confident of wrapping up a deal for the 24-year-old before the end of the window but are prepared to wait as neither the player or Wolfsburg want to push through a deal.

Wolfsburg’s sporting director Klaus Allofs admitted on Saturday that club would “deal with an offer out of respect for the player”, despite stating earlier this summer that he had no plans to sell the midfielder.

“As a player I have never created problems and I’m not going to start,” De Bruyne told reporters.

“A lot of respect should come from all sides. That’s always the best solution.

“Of course you can’t ignore it. Everyone knows the teams. They all play for the title. That is not nothing.

“But at this moment I have not heard that there is a bid for me.

“If an offer does come, I will hear about it and how much it is, but I have not yet heard anything.”

The Belgium international was sold by Chelsea 19 months ago after failing to secure a regular first-team place under Jose Mourinho but is adamant that his motivation for returning to England will not be because he wants to prove himself in the Premier League.

“I would not go to England just to prove that I can play there. I do not have to go to England,” said the midfielder.

“If I go there it’s because for me and for my family it is a good choice. That’s the key for me.”

When asked about his potential valuation, De Bruyne replied: “That’s such a difficult question in football, how much are you worth?

“You cannot just stick a figure on it. The team pays it — as much as you are worth at that time.

“Eighteen months ago, people were talking about ten million, now suddenly I’m fifty or sixty. It will be somewhere in between.”

Well you wouldn't get any indication unless somebody told you, would you ? So that's the very point I'm making.

Serling wasn't for sale. Then he was.
Sterling was for sale, we just took time agreeing a deal. Liverpool kept saying he was available for £50 million.
