De Bruyne?

Totally different player. If you asked Barry to do what Delph does, he wouldn't have a hope & no way does Delph read a defensive game like Barry, who was one of the best.

But neither he nor DeJong would suit this team, nor were they athletic enough to cover for Yaya in Europe.

Not saying i would want either of them now anyway, just feel that we haven't made a significant improvement which is why i think another midfielder is needed in order for us to keep progressing, especially in Europe.

As for pace, Matic is slow and he does just fine in Europe for Chelsea.

What's hard to understand.
It's about accepting a player for what he is. Not getting over hyped thinking he's going to make us CL winners. We can't have 22 superstars. We need a mix. He's a great buy (IMO), but that doesn't mean I should get overly optimistic about what he can bring to the team. We need water carriers AND creative players. The problem is fans getting the two mixed up and slagging off a water carrier because he's not a superstar, or raising expectations of a player thinking he will turn out to be one.

i didnt say he was a CL winner if you read my post. Opinions will differ and you have to put up with that but imo Delph is a very solid buy for our CM

Delph a step up from Barry... OK.

Come back when Delph has earned anywhere near the England caps Barry did. Not a chance. Villa fans all seemed to rate Barry MUCH higher too.

Ok Delph is 25 plenty more mileage don't you think he will improve with the calibre of player around him

Well being as barry started his england career in 1998 in the u17 (?) might take awhile... Anyway barry and delph both perform/performed alot better at their clubs rather than the national team imo.

Why are Gareth Barry and Fabian Delph being discussed in a thread about the transfer of De Bruyne? So hard to stay on track in the transfer forum these days

At the end off the day we are employing people to do what is best for the club, If we can get KDB for £40 million rather than £50 million then it will have been worth the extra few weeks in the long run.

Although it looks like FFP in it's current guise looks like a lame duck it may be revamped, that £10 million may make all the difference.

Tixxi will be measured like everyone else and will have a budget to work to, no matter how much we have set aside we will be looking to pay as little as we can get away with.

A little bit off topic but here's an update on DeBruyne ;)
@City_Watch: Mirror: Sources at City believe they are close to a figure, thought to be around £40m, that will persuade Wolfsburg to sell them De Bruyne.

Every player is different, but Barry get a bad name because people perceived him as slow. What they often miss is that he could slow things down deliberately which can be a real asset in a midfield. A little terrier midfielder has their place, but so does a calm / relaxed player. That was Barry's strength (and weakness).
You can say the opposite for Sterling. He's a real speed merchant, but not so good when you just need a slow calm approach. It's up to the manager to utilise the best attributes of players in the best situations. If he gets it wrong though, it makes the player look twice as bad.

Overall, I believe Barry was damn good for us. Not good enough for the CL champions we'd like to be. But we're still in that situation now, seeking upgrades on 3-4 of our squad.
