De Bruyne?

Bayern are one of the richest clubs in the world. If they want someone there's no reason why they should get him any cheaper than a Premier-league side. I would be quite happy to see him join us beause he's a top player, but also happy enough for the club to take a principled stand if you like. We have great attacking options and will be good enough to achieve our aims as we are if the defence get their act together.
Like you I think the weakness in the City squad is midfield and defence, but in comparison to the top European teams we lack quality. PSG, Barca, Bayern, Real Madrid will beat us every time because they have better layers and those top players are so difficult to come by. When one becomes available in the transfer market you have to buy them even if it does not solve the weakness in your team.

Bayern are in a totally dominant and controlled position they can plan everything and do what they want You can not compare the situations of both clubs. Transfer fees in England and involving Premiership clubs are totally different to the rest of Europe.

As mentioned in a recent post the plans have been made by ADUG well in advance so his worth in the general market place may or may not be the same financial value.
City have targeted him as a 'must have' to improve the team, Bayern probably target him as backup value for when an existing player ceases to perform at top level.

However, thats what our owner has tasked ADUG with where they must balance our player needs with self sufficiency. They must find income to support their player spending so they are likely to have a maximum they can pay even if it is at a premium.

Can you please dumb this up for an American supporter of 5 years? Seems pogba is far more on the 'must have spectrum'. I 'think' I get how great KDB is btw.

At this point I think I'd prefer it if we just stand pat and get the guys pep prefers next year.

Feels like a freeroll year (or blowoff year if you want to word it poorly).

It's a perfect year to just see what happens and then get what the next manager feels necessary. Pretty dumb to go spend like crazy if a new style, or system is coming.

Kinda gross to think that way, but I mean it's just better....
I think we are going to see a very different MCFC this season. Sterling and De Bruyne? out wide and Bony/Aguero down the middle. Silva in behind. Toure at the deep point of the diamond, and God help the other midfielder and the defence! Could be a lot of goals at both ends and may take a lot of time to get it right

Also pretty dumb to waste a season doing fuck all after a year of winning.....fuck all.

I hear you bud, but sometimes you do more damage longterm by panicking in the short term. Rodwell, Garcia, Sinclair, Fernando, mangala....(some are to be decided)

Looks like City are going to go from a 4 or 5 man midfield to a 3 man midfield and therefore a dynamic multi-talented midfielder who can pass, and tackle becomes vital. I mght have mis-read it totally. Maybe we are changing personnel but system stays the same.

Pogba is the best dynamic midfielder in the game. A modern day Keane or Vieira. Would have been ideal for the all-action Premiership.

You're under the assumption we get KDB. I was just trying to throw it out there that it's ok if we don't land him. If I'm thinking in management terms at least. Just a differ angle is all.

I don't see Pogba as being anywhere even close to either yet defensively personally. Maybe one day, but nowhere near it right now.

If we were playing a top side & had Pogba plus 1 in centre mid, I would expect us to get the same dicking we would get with Yaya plus 1. We need 3 imo. Such as Delph, Yaya Pogba, or Fernandinho, Delph Yaya/Pogba. Against lesser sides, it should be ok to leave one out.

I think I will just inform my son that the season ticket I bought him will see us just standing still and treading water while we wait for the messiah SIR Pep next season

Apologies my friend, I was merely using it as an example of the way a different value can be placed on a player depending on relative need. Perhaps you are correct but are both players mutually exclusive as ''must haves'' ?

As a 5 year supporter of City you will probably not have experienced the ridicule and disappointments that my lifelong years of supporting City have brought.
Continue your support for our currently successful team but please always build in a degree of ''City Factor'' into your expectations because believe you me they will surprise you constantly on the field of play.

This is a thing that I hope our owners understand.

Different strokes for different folks. Just another side to a possible, possibility (us not landing our men).

I'm just saying that there are a crazy amount of angles with crazy possibilities. Just trying to say it's ok if we don't land this kid and I'd prefer if we DIDNT PANIC BUY AVERAGE backups.

I think it is wrong to say this season will be a write-off, but it's clearly going to be something of a transitional one.

The best teams don't get built in 1 transfer window. There's usually an easily plottable journey as a side gets built up to a point where it's going to win the CL etc. And it's a lot harder to build a CL winning squad than a league winning squad.

I see this season as being not unlike Mourinho's 13/14. New formation, some new players- young players as well. We will still do very well because we are starting from a strong base, but I think there will be some obvious flaws in CM and LB, which, when we fix them next summer, will take the team from challenging for the league/domestic cups to being genuine CL contenders. We can't fix it all in one transfer window - you just can't buy more than a couple of players of the calibre we need in one summer.

This season we will score a shit load of goals, we will see Sterling, Lopes, Denayer and Iheanacho improve drastically and we should win some silverware - or at least get close. It will be a very fun year to be a City fan.

Nail on the head

Looking forward to seeing De Bruyne in a City shirt. Don't agree with those who say we're weaker than last season - him and Sterling improve us considerably, and could be here a long time given their age.

Defence and central midfield still a slight worry, but hopefully we'll just outscore opponents like in 2013/14.
