De Jong (Merged)

Re: De Jong last night..

boo boys? lol i've heard it all now
never booed a city player in my life even tevez.

all i'm saying aswell is he isn't playing to his best as we all know, it could be because he's still back from injury and needs more games. Don't understand how that would make me a boo boy? but ok.

I have just read the whole of tis thread. i find it difficult to believe the amount of negativity about a player who is as responsible as any for the success of our club. Is it that boo boys, now have to be a little careful, but are waiting to pounce if they get the slightest encouragement, doesnt fit into the team anymore , My arse.

unfortunately mate whilst we should (and most do) be enjoying enjoying and enjoying our success and great football, some sad fuckers just have to moan, moan, moan and they will ALWAYS find something - it really does my head in but we just have to rise above it. Anyone with a knowledge of football knows what an invaluable job NDJ does and there are loads of reasons why we need him - most importantly, Bobby knows we need him
Some do feel they need something to moan about to be happy...sad

Do you know what winds me up people like you 2 saying no one can criticise any fucking one because its so good. Im pretty sure we all fucking know its about as good as it could possibly get. That doesn't mean every single player is at the top of there game or fits in to the team. I only questioned this invaluable job he does that you mention because against the bigger teams Bobby hasn't deemed him invaluable, so either he is wrong or you are
Just because its so good doesn't mean we cant discuss tactics

I wasnt referring to you specifically, but if you are allowed to criticise De Jong ("100 passes for a total yeardage of 10", "he just doesn't fit into the team any more") why am I not allowed to criticise your criticism? My point anyway is a more general one, not specific to you and not to this thread, but there are a hell of a lot of moaners who will always find something to moan about however well we are doing; but yes of course you are entitled to your view, and as to what Bobby thinks about NDJ I believe his limited game time has been due to slow recovery from the injury sustained in the first game of the season, but we will only truly know this later in the season; interesting if Bobby does not rate him any more that a week ago he was asking the club to sort him a new contract despite him having Kia as an advisor - that tells me quite a lot

Re: De Jong last night..

My point was precisely that, some blues have to find someone to be critical of, it is what they do. i am sure mancini, would love to tie him for a new 4 year deal, he has slightly changed his approach since the newcstle game, does not lunge or go to ground so often is stillour best defensive midfielder, will play v Napoli,

My main point was its not the way forward to always try to find a weak point, a team is th sum of all the parts and he is a vital part

I think that is all I have to say on the matter.

Re: De Jong last night..

Got a very good 90 mins under his belt-NDJ is crucial to our success this season

Boo boys? I doubt anyone on here has ever boo'd de Jong. Merely talking about his role in the team and whether he can fit in with our new look

Don't our three results (two with a less than 100% De Jong) with him in the team answer that?

4-1
5-2
3-0

It's as easy as push Yaya forward and hold De Jong back (as in the Villarreal game), dilemma solved.

Re: De Jong last night..

He'll still be important for those tough away games in both the PL and the CL. I'd rather have NDJ patrolling in front of our defence away at Arsenal, Chelsea, Napoli etc and give up on some attacking capability for those games.

I do agree this season he is a bit surplus to requirements for the easier games although no reason he can't have a squad role to keep sharpness up in some of them.

He's no longer an automatic first choice on the teamsheet - and this is coming from an NDJ fan.

You get me all wrong the yardage thing was a joke. Im not saying get rid of him by any stretch im just saying that from being 1 of the first on the team sheet he is now a squad player while yaya and barry are almost automatic pics. NDJ has been injured and he has to come back from that. When we play in our new free flowing role he looks out of place. When we play last season City ala Villareal he makes perfect sense in the team. Bob obviously rates him as well and the 2 seasons preceding this one showed you that

No they don't, those 3 results prove very little. 3 games is not enough to judge, especially when one was an early round carling cup game and the other against villareal reserves. de Jong not offering enough and halting our own attacks in those games isn't gonna make much difference in a team like ours as we'll probably win anyway

It might be easy to push Yaya forward but that's only because Yaya is such a fantastic player that when moved forward he still gives us both a potent attacking threat and excellent defensive work. de jong only offers defensive qualities and has been detrimental to our attacking play in the games he's played. It might not be a problem as it might just be down to match fitness but otherwise he's going to have to raise his game and give us more cos Yaya, Barry and Milner offer so much more than him in the middle (and Hargreaves when fit)

Perhaps three matches can't prove anything but they SUGGEST a lot, specifically that we'll score plenty with or without him in the team but the protection he gives us adds a lot. We hold a player like Yaya back when he isn't in the team (which almost seems a waste of Yaya) but as against Villarreal that isn't required when De Jong is playing and Yaya can be as effective as many strikers, more than compensating for De Jong's apparent lack of attacking ability. Mancini will make the right decision anyway and based on his obsession with rotation De Jong has a part to play in major and minor games, as just about everyone does (besides Pantilimon).
