Could you explain coherently what De Jong does offer? With no references to passion etc. Thanks

His passing is top notch, hes a tidy footballer, he protects the defence superbly, hes very classy on the ball, so strong, he's a very intelligent player who reads the game superbly, hes a big game player and he gives City so much penetration. Without De Jong, we lack urgency and steel and any team in the Prem would love to have him. If you cannot see that, then De Jong really has knobbed your bird.

Ok, in reference to what you have said, and for the benefit of Swales:

From my point of view, I am of the opinion that, although I understand that you might not share this view, De Jong reads the game well and is good on the ball, however he is easily bypassed (due to his lack of pace) and does not make enough tackles, he often slows down our attacks as he very rarely plays a risky pass (this is not necessarily I negative), I don't believe he is that strong either.

I apologize if I have forced my OPINION on you.

Lack of pace? De Jong does not lack pace at all. Thats absolute nonsense. He is quicker than Tom Huddlestone, Lucas Leiva and Javier Masherano. He is one of the quickest defensive midfielders out there. Does not make enough tackles... are you kidding me? Hes all over the place, he would tackle his own grandma if he could and he would run through a brick wall for the cause. Hes an absolutely superb player. He does not slow down our attacks at all, he keeps the ball moving quickly, another absolute nonsense statement. Hes a monster, to say he isnt strong is a joke. Tell me who is stronger then, Sergio Busquets? haha i give up.

Seriously mate, you are talking absolute garbage. To consider Lucas Leiva, Huddlestone and Song on the same shelf as De Jong is beyond laughable. As for Fellaini, he is nowhere near as good as De Jong, what because he strides forward more than De Jong?

Put it this way, De Jong is fantastic and i mean FANTASTIC every season and im sure 80% of City fans on this forum will agree with me on this one. If you cannot see what De Jong offers to our team, i would go as far as to say you are retarded.

agree with all of that, and most importantly look at how we play when he is not there - second half at Birmingham, the whole match at Liverpool. Nigel De Jong is the heartbeat of the team, he breaks up play like noone else in the premier league, and his short passing to set up attacks are excellent; anyway the good news is that Roberto Mancini picks our team, and he well knows that NDJ is 1 of his 3 most valuable players; you know that, I know that, and 95% plus of City's regular fans know that

Name a better defensive midfielder than Nige in the world nevermind the UK?

I cannot name one, thats for sure. I am definitely not being biased either.

Dax, I can see your point about people being entitled to a different opinion to the masses. But that only stretches so far.
If I saw a mate's newborn baby my opinion may be that the nipper is freakishly ugly....but if I said so surely that would cause upset and offence from the parent.

The same kinda thing applies here. NDJ has become so much more than a City player to us. He is our kith and kin.
So whilst someone is entitled to say he is on a par with Carrick...that's like saying my mum is as attractive as Pat Butcher.
Its an insult basically. Can you not see this?

The best post in this thread. Cracking effort LT.

I can't help but think it's a different opinion, just for the sake of being different. Sabster sees everyone loving De jong, so searches and chooses the facts which support the opposite. I would say it makes for decent football argument, but it doesn't. It's just frustrating.

Strength I can't provide stats, but I rarely see him go shoulder to shoulder and shit all ove rpeople in the way that Yaya does (but also look at his body it is not that strong).

In terms of tackles I can provide stats ;)

1) This season De Jong made 77 tackles. Lucas made 111 Parker 93, Song 79 (A player who he is believed to be considerably better than).

2) The season before, Mascherano made about 180 tackles and completed more passes than anyone else (if you want to be a sole DM these are the stats you need). De Jong made 60
