De Jong

Chill NM, we are 4th ,better than most predicted, so we have progressed from below the group that chased 5th got into that group and behold actually chasing 4th all in the same season, someone somewhere is doing something right. Some of those draws earlier in the season have helped get us where we are

The series of drawn games was down to our poor midfield, ultimately Hughe's fault but the midfield consists of people who carry blame!

Was more down to our shocking defending as an entire team, which has tightened up under Mancini, using the same players. Suggest to me the problem was the coaching rather than the fault of individual players.

Hahahaha!! NMc, your a wum, for real!! Not sure that anybody said Nige was 'world class', but he's certainly not far off against today's set of DMs!

Apart from Essien(and Kompany who is CB, this year), name me four that would push NdJ into fifth, in the Prem...

Be aware that if you can't then the Prem is full of sh*t players of which our own sh*t player rides upon the very crest.

Purely out and out defensive midfielders are no longer necessary, they were flavour of the month for a while when Makalele was in his pomp, but the top teams have now realised it is better to have a more all round complete player doing that job plus adding other things to the team.

The idea of having an immobile stump purely to try and somehow 'break up' the oppositions play and contribute fuck all else is just ludicrous.

So... Mourinho is ludicrous for using Cambiasso, as was Hughes and Mancini for using de Jong.

Crazy people...

So defensive midfielders are not the flavour at the min, what shall we do lets create a new type of player, oh balls lets just play 4 or 5 upfront, oh hang on wait if CB and AJ are wide whats that large hole in the middle

Not really, Vieira and Barry are there plus Bellars and Jinky both track back well and help out.

Seemed to work well enough on Saturday.

yet another player who offers alot more to a team than de jong. Ok De jongs ok at breaking up play but you need to have more than that to your game if your goin to be a midfielder at the very top level. Most top midfielders can do de jongs job aswell as drive forward with the ball, quicker passes of the ball and alot more positive with it.

There are some games where de Jong just doesn't give us enough but he's a quality player and there's more to come from him I feel. Hopefully Mancini can get a bit more out of him

Malouda, Fabregas, Essien, Lampard, Milner, Barry, Gerrard, Mascherano, Huddlestone, Zakora, Carrick, Fletcher, Cahill.........
They're all better midfielders than De Jong and they can all tackle just as well as De Jong. I can name another dozen or so if you want.....
As for the chappy going on about playing 4 striker and leaving a big hole in the middle, there won't be a big hole, just two mobile midfielders. De Jong leaves huge holes with his immobility and stuborness in not supporting play.

-- Wed Apr 07, 2010 3:33 pm --

I have to ask what is quality about him?
He tackles like some Wimbledon relic from the 80's.
Passes like Stevie Wonder.
And moves like a milk float.
Tell me exactly what you think he does with so much quality that he's "not far short of world class"
