Fabregas, Lampard, Iniesta, Sneijder

All can defend!!! watch them. Riquelme is as much a midfielder as say petrov is... ie he's an attacker..

The 'football is a simple game' .. is a famous quote.... Doh!!!!

None of them are defensive minded, they're aren't brought into a team because of their defensive skills. If you played say Sneijder and Lampard, together in a 4-4-2, chances are a well organised team would exploit it, as both of them are more attack minded. If they could defend, there would be no need to play a defensive midfielder, and in both the teams they play for, there is one who usually starts.

BUT... they CAN & DO defend.

If you can explain what exactly he does so well your facepalm would be more than an embarassing way to cover up your lack of anything good to say about the player you're defending, that isn't a just a vague "he breaks up play".
Technically he is poor in every department!
From what I've seen of him in the past, he seems to have lost all mobility, balance and touch as he doubled in width in his early twenties!

OMG you had to go back to the young, pre injury slim De Jong of about 4 years ago to find one example of ball control pmsl!

Not very well though. Almost every player defends to some extent, even strikers defend.

Mate, do you ever actually watch city? De Jong has been great for us, yes he is one dimentional, but he's a class act. Fair enough to say that we play better without him as that's your opinion, but to basically call him a shit player is a lie.

Again spot on, the NDJ cronies try to twist the arguement but the facts are De Jong offers very little that a midfielder should be capable of, even a defensive one!
A midfielder that only defends is a defender not a midfielder, De Jong doesn't deserve the label "midfielder".

A midfielder that only defends is a defender not a midfielder

Nonsense. Fabregas, Lampard, Iniesta, Sneijder, Riquelme can't defend, does that mean they're not top class? Midfielders have different roles.

Stupid tacticians? Mourinho plays Cambiasso, at Chelsea he played Makelele. Wenger plays Song, and previously Parlour, are they stupid tacticians? Playing 2 attacking midfielders in the centre of a 4-4-2 is just asking to be taken apart.

Fabregas, Lampard, Iniesta, Sneijder

You're equating De Jong with defensive midfielders that have some footballing ability whereas he has none. Then you're making excuses for his lack of ability by saying his job is a limited but important one and then defending that role by comparing it with what players do in other teams, pissed logic!
On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being an out and out attacking mid and 1 being De Jong, you only need a 5 to play with your 1's or 2's.
The only way De Jong will be a number 2 is in another sense!

How closely do you watch De Jong? Are you one of those idiot piss ants that will throw there arms and sigh whenever he makes a mistake? "OH COME ON DE JONG FOR FUCKS SAKE. GET HIM OFF" You know the ones.....

Personally I think De Jong is incredibly skillful, on the ball, moves the ball from side to side quite a lot and rolls it under his feet. Seen him escape from many players this year.

You need to watch a bit harder, De Jongs defensive contribution is usually no more than the players around him but he contributes next to nothing else, in fact often gives the ball away on the rare occasion he tries a forward pass!

I wasn't comparing him with an attacking midfielder, I was just saying that midfielders do different roles. If you also actually read what I wrote I wasn't championing De Jong at all.
