Facepalm
If you can explain what exactly he does so well your facepalm would be more than an embarassing way to cover up your lack of anything good to say about the player you're defending, that isn't a just a vague "he breaks up play".
Technically he is poor in every department!
From what I've seen of him in the past, he seems to have lost all mobility, balance and touch as he doubled in width in his early twenties!

It's pretty obvious that de Jong needs to give us more than what he has been doing lately, but you saying that you'd 'class De Jong as the least skillfull midfielder in the premiership' just shows you up for having piss poor judgement I'm afraid.

here we are again. Same old arguments for and against. It's all opinions but i just can't see where people get the idea that he's a great defensive midfielder from and granted shouldn't be used in games against poorer opposition but should be against teams and midfields with better players because he gives the defence that added protection, a shield. NO HE DOESN'T...he's miles away from where the action is....he doesn't read the game and make timely interceptions, and NO he can't tackle. I'd love to watch a recording of the game with pro-de jong fans and get them to point out all the occasions where he snuffs out opposition attacks etc because it'll be counted on the fingers on one hand, if that. Play him against united and once again we'll concede midfield to them and have to resort to long balls to the forwards instead of breaking up their play and attacking at speed.

Spot on, and who wants to wait till play reaches our back four before breaking it up, Tevez breaks up more play than De Jong FFS, but much better to snuff it out as far up the pitch as possible, but that's not De Jong's game because he's "an imoblie stump".
And I'd love the poster to tell me who is technically worse than De Jong in midfield in the prem, I've not seen anyone this season!

Gago isn't really a defensive minded midfielder, he's a more central/attacking midfielder, similar to where Fabregas plays for Arsenal. He's not really a De Jong replacement, unless you're playing him and Barry in the centre of midfield in a 4-4-2.

Defensive Midfielder, Attacking midfielder, Central Midfielder... WTF?
A midfielder is a midfielder is a midfielder.. Herein lies the problem...

a top class midfielder should be able to do all....

Football is a simple game! made difficult by stupid tacticians...

Nonsense. Fabregas, Lampard, Iniesta, Sneijder, Riquelme can't defend, does that mean they're not top class? Midfielders have different roles.

Stupid tacticians? Mourinho plays Cambiasso, at Chelsea he played Makelele. Wenger plays Song, and previously Parlour, are they stupid tacticians? Playing 2 attacking midfielders in the centre of a 4-4-2 is just asking to be taken apart.

All those defensive midfielders offer something going forward, De Jong offers nothing offensively and has NO technical ability on the ball.

Again spot on, the NDJ cronies try to twist the arguement but the facts are De Jong offers very little that a midfielder should be capable of, even a defensive one!
A midfielder that only defends is a defender not a midfielder, De Jong doesn't deserve the label "midfielder".

All can defend!!! watch them. Riquelme is as much a midfielder as say petrov is... ie he's an attacker..

The 'football is a simple game' .. is a famous quote.... Doh!!!!

None of them are defensive minded, they're aren't brought into a team because of their defensive skills. If you played say Sneijder and Lampard, together in a 4-4-2, chances are a well organised team would exploit it, as both of them are more attack minded. If they could defend, there would be no need to play a defensive midfielder, and in both the teams they play for, there is one who usually starts.
