Why am I disillusioned with his style of Play? Besides the fact that he can't/didn't score (given the few instances of good goal scoring opportunities he had this season) and when we attacked as a team apparently we played with 'one' player less.
Cogitate on this
1. Pienaar's goal against us at Goodison Park!
2. Arteta's goal @ our turf! Is it true
i. A holding & defensive midfielder is supposed to afford protection to our back four?
ii. Who was the nearest City player & covering Arteta, couldn't keep pace with him given the headstart, didn't 'slide tackle' at instance of Arteta shooting?
Please tell me.
To-date nobody has answered me per above. Perhaps I can help out with this video link

Similarly I have given a complete quantitative analysis of the impact of de Jong starts and non-starts on City's performances here in this thread. So far its not been refuted however I will be happy if I stand corrected on my stats.

Now to the meat of this post. Much has been posted on de Jong's contribution or role as a holding midfielder on the team. My question is this does de Jong bring out the best from his teammates?
My contention is this can we afford the luxury of a holding midfielder like Makelele vis a vis the Galacticos? No! Why? Simply Because its a team sport.
You can't say my job is not to break up plays, slidetackle etc. Its Makelele's role. Makelele can't say that I broke up plays, slide tackled etc and I can wash my hands off now you Galacticos are paid to score or attack. Right?
On the other hand Barca's is a team we should emulate where every team member ATTACKED together and at least two, three or four (inc. Messi) chased or try to retrieve the ball if its lost. Isn't this a team we want to emulate or strive to be?
Now how do we perceive de Jong's role?
