De Jong's currently 2nd highest paid Dutchman. he wants more

I am confident on this subject. He would not get higher wages anywhere else now.
I understand he wants more because he is hard worker and very important part of our first team. One of the first name of the or the starting team.

He is now paid about what Bridge, RSC takes home without attending the trainings.
What does it tell the other hard-worker players?

I hope we make a big clearout this summer we have two week to do it to show the remaining players that tehere are no more free money , if you are here you have to perform.

(not mentioning Adebayors wage what did he do for City in the last 2 years and what did De Jong do? One thing is sure City paid twice as much at least to Adebayor for that performances.)

There is no doubt players like Wayne Bridge and RSC should be on the same wages as De Jong when you consider the relative contributions. However some players will always be more successful than others and we cannot pay higher wages to undo a previous wrong.

Completely agree, I would be surprised if he received higher wages elsewhere, some teams set up differently and other look for other attributes. De Jong suits the type of game Mancini wishes to play and so it would be foolish for De Jong to throw that away.

-- Thu Aug 18, 2011 10:26 pm --

We need to pay up and pay up fast.

if not what happen ?

He will sign for Chelsea for 70 million. It was in an Italian paper :-)

Cant believe a half baked story like this has reached twelve pages.

I personally think its blatantly obvious his agent means they'll speak once the transfer window shuts as they want to allow the club to concentrate on in and outs before contract renewals.

Only read first page and last page.
Sat with 5 dutch guys last night( and a Beglian who loves City) who could not believe this situation.
their words(pls readin a Steve Mclaren Dutch accent).
He destructs but what else
OK sure he can tackle but so can so many other players
When did he score you a goal
When did he make you a goal
sure he stops paly but so do so many others
He is not so special a player to be at the top of your list
Who would pay him more?

All above quoted by fans who love him for the their country but see his limitations

I love him but see we can replace easier than other players

If he moved to another team on a free he would get paid more in line with what he wants though. It could be through a huge signing on bonus or just a higher weekly salary.

Can't be arsed reading the whole thread, but some of the comments are astounding

De Jong is an absolute class act. His passing is great, his tackling, agility, and positional play are the best I've ever seen in a defensive midfielder

Sorry to all defending, the rest of you are morons.

It would be very interesting to know exactly what City have offered him as for a player in his position he is already on excellent wages.

For those who are saying pay him whatever he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world that is immaterial. The players who score goals and create goals will always be valued higher that the destructive element of the team as this is widely regarded as the most difficult part of the game and also the area which will determine how successful you are.

De jong is excellent in his role but as an all round player is limited. It might be difficult to accept but a different type of manager to Mancini may not value De Jong as highly.

If he didn't sign a new deal with us he'd become a free agent and you could bet he'd get a good wage somewhere else. Given wha tother players are on and that he is a valued member of the team he should be getting paid more in line with them.

He would only get 60k at spurs and Arsenal, not many clubs would pay him more than 80k a week. if we give in and pay him over 100k a week were will it end? will every player want over 100k and what will it mean with regards to the "fair play" when we are over budget because of it?

But when can he move for free? It's still two years from his contract if I'm right...

He wants to be paid better (who doesn't) and make a new contract that makes sure he spends his best years of his carrier at City.

And we cant forget he is not a new player we know what we can expect from him good performances week in week out.

If Kompany wanted a new contract with big pay rise I would give him hat he wants too maybe he isnt even paid what De Jong is, because Kompany came earlier to the club.

But if Balotelli would like a new contract after he is paid well enough with about 5 really good matches in City (and 5 very bad) that would be embarassing.

Apparently Kompany has refused the 80k a week too, think Hart did too and in the end got his current deal of 90k a week
