There is no doubt players like Wayne Bridge and RSC should be on the same wages as De Jong when you consider the relative contributions. However some players will always be more successful than others and we cannot pay higher wages to undo a previous wrong.

Completely agree, I would be surprised if he received higher wages elsewhere, some teams set up differently and other look for other attributes. I personally think its blatantly obvious his agent means they'll speak once the transfer window shuts as they want to allow the club to concentrate on in and outs before contract renewals.

If he moved to another team on a free he would get paid more in line with what he wants though. It could be through a huge signing on bonus or just a higher weekly salary.

De Jong is an absolute class act. His passing is great, his tackling, agility, and positional play are the best I've ever seen in a defensive midfielder

It would be very interesting to know exactly what City have offered him as for a player in his position he is already on excellent wages.

For those who are saying pay him whatever he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world that is immaterial. The players who score goals and create goals will always be valued higher that the destructive element of the team as this is widely regarded as the most difficult part of the game and also the area which will determine how successful you are.

De jong is excellent in his role but as an all round player is limited. It might be difficult to accept but a different type of manager to Mancini may not value De Jong as highly.

If he didn't sign a new deal with us he'd become a free agent and you could bet he'd get a good wage somewhere else. Given wha tother players are on and that he is a valued member of the team he should be getting paid more in line with them.

He would only get 60k at spurs and Arsenal, not many clubs would pay him more than 80k a week. if we give in and pay him over 100k a week were will it end? will every player want over 100k and what will it mean with regards to the "fair play" when we are over budget because of it?

Apparently Kompany has refused the 80k a week too, think Hart did too and in the end got his current deal of 90k a week
