De Jong's currently 2nd highest paid Dutchman. he wants more

Who says NDJ will be successful elsewhere?
Perhaps he is successful because we can afford 2 holding m/f. Or he is surrounded by marquee players who make up for his lack of 'total football' by augmenting his lack of creative & offensive skills. Yes at his previous club he was more of an offensive player which we would not have rated him for that as a WC player.

There are many players with better holding capabilities plying on the continent. Just that at City we can burnish him as per above reasoning.

Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong is seeking a pay hike.

It is understood that talks over a new contract between De Jong and the club have since stalled.

The midfielder is seeking a pay-rise from his €3.5 million salary to reflect his standing at the club.

De Jong's current wages make him the second highest paid Dutchman in the game, but Roger Linse, his agent, admits the midfielder wants more.

"It may still take longer for City to consider the proposal.

"We'll wait for a time when things have calmed down," Linse told Voetbal International.

With the fair play bollocks kicking in we might of made a rod for our own back here with these high wages. 80k a week not enough??? fuck me, they need to spend a month in the real world with £200 a week to live on.

Would you like to be the one to tell him no?

He has improved his game. He is easily one of the three most consistent performers.

He is very valuable to the team. I have to laugh at people who think otherwise. I remember totting up the stats from last season: we won so many more games with him than without him that I, an avowedly strong believer in his worth to the team, had to check the figures four or five times. They were just unbelievable. The trend was infinitely more pronounced than in the case of Tevez, believe it or not. When I get the chance I'll dig them out.

If anyone deserves a raise, it's him. His agent is saying he's patient, not forcing the issue? Well that's very reasonable of him, most unlike an agent. The sort of attitude we should applaud.

We dont really have many replacements, and tbh De Jong is a beast, there isn't many in the world that are better than him. I would say he is the 3rd most consistent player at City and does deserve more than he's on, 85-95k sounds write for Nige.

I know this might come as a shock for some of you...

But football isn't the real world. It's in it's own world, has been for a while. Don't like it, get out. Simple as that.

Nige is more than entitled to want parity with his team-mates, especially as he's one of the highest performers in the whole team. The fact that it's "out of this world" money for you and me doesn't mean he's any less entitled to earn more, if it's what his team-mates are earning.

"best in the world"??? He is quality and I wouldn't want to see him go, but let's not get carried away
Who do you believe to be better in that position?
First off, I agree he was instrumental in securing CL football for us this season, so yes, a pay raise is in order imo.

I rate Barry above NDJ. Cambiaso, Mascherano, De Rossi, and possibly Tymoshukwould also be on that list.

If it was announced that he'd just signed a new 5 year deal on £110k a week, most of the moaners in this thread would be 100% behind it.

He plays the Makelele role to perfection. Any of those saying he brings nothing to the side, go look what happened to Real when he left. They had all the attacking talent in the world, but wouldn't give him a pay rise. He left, and they won fuck all for 3 years, and couldn't get their side to balance.

Those who don't rate him are football simpletons as far as I'm concerned, as they can't see the transformation in the entire way we play when he plays, compared to when we don't.

Agreed. Our record number of clean sheets was due in large part to the combined efforts of Nige, Komps, and Hart. Take out any one of them and our defence will fall apart. Not to mention that NDJ is always at his best in the big games and that will be crucial against Chamions League opposition this year. I'd give him however much he wants as long as it's reasonable.
