So what happens to the lads we signed in the summer?
People unfortunately don´t think that far, my guess is they want to get rid of them.

Since Milner is used more as a right winger it wouldn't affect him as much?

Rodwell would be the one mostly affected and probably shipped out on loan to "gain experience".

Leaving Yaya, De Rossi, Garcia, Barry to fill two or three spots I suppose which isn't too unreasonable (4 players for 2 or 3 spots). But it was still careless in summer to buy two similar midfielders.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini wants to sign Daniele De Rossi in January
Roberto Mancini has urged Txiki Begiristain to make Daniele De Rossi his first major signing as Manchester City’s new director of football in January with the Italian midfielder growing increasingly unsettled at Roma.

Mancini and Begiristain held their first strategy meeting on Wednesday following the former Barcelona sporting director’s appointment at the Etihad Stadium 10 days ago.

Begiristain, a key architect of Barcelona’s success during the past decade, has been charged with driving the club’s first-team player recruitment policy in tandem with Mancini.

And having failed to lure De Rossi to the Etihad during the summer, when the 29 year-old instead pledged his future to Roma, Mancini now believes that the player is ready to leave his hometown club as a result of his failure to be impressed by the methods of coach Zdenek Zeman.

De Rossi, who can also play as a central defender in a three-man defence, is unhappy at being forced to play out of position on the right of midfield in Zeman’s 4-3-3 formation and sources in Italy believe the player is ready to cite his discontent in order to pursue a move to City.

And having resisted offers during the summer for De Rossi, also a January target for Paris St-Germain, Roma general manager Franco Baldini hinted at the player’s disaffection earlier this week by claiming, “Should an offer arrive for him (De Rossi), we will consider it.”

While Mancini’s admiration of De Rossi is long-standing, having attempted to sign him for Inter Milan in 2007, the Manchester City manager could face a battle to persuade Begiristain of the merits in pursuing a move for the Italy international, however, due to his age, £25million valuation and current wages, which see him earn £4.8million after tax at Roma.

With Yaya Touré due to spend at least a month away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast in January and February, Mancini is determined to bolster his squad in the transfer window and he regards De Rossi’s ability to play in midfield and defence as evidence of his potential value to the club.

Despite City’s latest Champions League disappointment on Tuesday, which saw the club’s hopes of qualification for the knock-out stages badly damaged by a 2-2 draw against Ajax, where their defensive frailties, especially from set-pieces, were once again starkly exposed, Mancini retains the support of owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan.

Senior figures at City insist that the Italian’s position will not be reviewed should they fail to progress in the Champions League, but Mancini’s unpredictability — emphasised by his post-match resignation, later retracted, as Inter manager following a defeat against Liverpool in 2008 — ensures that his own intentions remain an unknown quantity.

DDR ? but I want 'Benat', his young & vision & skillful

Is he great defensively though? having another Yaya type central midfielder would be suicide as we got get opened up and ripped to shreds!

De Rossi offers both a fantastic defensive duty, but also can ping balls around the pitch for fun!

We need experience if you ask me, Chelsea went and signed Makelele at 30 and he was a revelation!

De Rossi is a proper warrior, you ain't getting past him, Vinny, Nastasic, an Hart - it would be very hard if an opposition tried in my opinion!

Think the dark clouds would be over Milner mate. Mancini would have 5 DM's Milner,Rodwell,Barry,Garcia & De Rossi (IF WE GET HIM) 1 of them has to go and I can't see it being Barry or the new ones.

Sorry it will be Barry if thats the case

I can see both Barry and Milner being shifted out one the Summer time.

I think the club will want to upgrade on Barry and I believe Milner will just want out due to game time.

I just think we might see some rather big changes this January and next Summer, Txiki's vision will want to be put in force as soon as possible and its quite clear certain players are never going to give us Champions League glory!

Fuck em!
De Rossi is the perfect player for us. Him and Yaya would be unstoppable in midfield, he is a classy playmaker and a tackling, defensive warrior in one.

It would be like us buying back De Jong, mating him with Xabi Alonso, putting him though the Ivan Drago training program, sewing on a terrific beard and then playing him alongside Yaya.

We would then be an Eden Hazard type player away from the perfect team. De Rossi and a wide creative player and we will piss the league, and have a very good go in Europe next season.
