If what has been said in the last couple of pages are correct, haven't had access to computer all day the only way this deal has a chance is for us to make a bid for the player that the club cannot tunr down, they will need to appease the fans in someway if they are to force DDRs hand. Theonly way for that to happen is for say a 45m pound bid, something they can say will enable the club to start to build new stadium or invest in younger exciting prospects. Anything less and it just won't happen.

Agree, regardless of it annoying the 'lock the thread' mob on here, there is surely more to this than meets the eye...

The only thing to actually come out of his appearance today was the 'revelation' that he is prepared to move if the club accept a bid? We already knew he hadn't asked to leave because he'd just signed a new contract.

He's played a blinder here and now cannot look anything but a hero, even if he does leave. He wanted to stay despite the financial rewards on offer, so no mercenary tag for Daniele lol, and he remains an icon of Rome.

If he stays (because we don't do a deal with Roma) he is more loved than ever for turning us down...

Hopefully the deal makers are in negotiation with Roma tonight. Can see this rumbling on to the end of the window!

Nobody can say this deal is off yet with any certainty for exactly the reasons outlined above plus the strong feeling that we - as a club - would not have pursued this one unless there had been positive feedback from either the player, Roma or very likely both parties. The key to the whole thing for me is how desperately Roma need the fee and savings in wages that a transfer would bring about?
As suggested above a win-win outcome is an absolute possibility. Maybe I just belong in the deluded corner too. Still I wonder what the odds are just now?

Slim or remote.

I'd say its between "slim" to "none"; and "slim" is out of town!

I would hope if we are to make them a once in a lifetime offer it is exactly that if they refuse just like Kaka we don't go back ever.

I was well disappointed when he done that press conference, even the fact that there's a glimmer of hope that we may just sign one of the best defensive midfielders is great. I hope we offer whatever is needed now to get him especially now that we've sold Ade/RSC is on the way out, and Johnson looks set for an exit... COME ON DDR!

I don't think anymore bids will go in after this Summer mate.

If we were to offer that for a 29 year old we'd be the laughing stock in my opinion, it would be ludicrous. I don't think any offer was ever made, just a polite enquiry as to what it might take. It was purely in Roma and DDR's interests to make a noise about it. Time to move on to other interests imho.
