This 100%. Exactly my feelings.
This is the post I put in a thread on my views regarding Beñat.
I personally believe that our current midfield is quite good enough to win us domestic glory this season, but however, it is quite evident that our current midfield is a quite a far from competing with the best in Europe and actually dictating the play.
Many on here are talking about Beñat as a good replacement - who is in no doubt of being a good player - but in my opinion we need a player with experience who can come into the team and not only give everybody a boost, but be able to dictate to a team full of egos in the midfield area and almost be a captain in that area.
I just think we are in no position to be trying promising talents until we have actually won the European cup for the first time, when that happens, new players will know the standards the club expects of them.
We need a proven champion, a true leader, a second captain, a role model in our midfield to make us tick in Europe.
I just think that taking a player like Beñat out of Real Betis and putting him in a team full of egos and asking him to basically dictate what goes on in midfield is too much, especially for a club who is wanting to win its first European Cup.
It would be different at Madrid or Barcelona because they have won the Cup numerous times over, and the standards are already implanted at those clubs so any player going into their teams will know what is expected of them, at City we don't quite have that sort of authority about us yet.
We need a De Rossi, Alonso, Busquets etc.. who has been there and done it, who knows what is expected of them, and can dictate to the team around him without feeling the pressure of the egos around him.
