I'll be mighty disappointed if we are going to spend "only" 100 million this summer. This is our window to spend big and transform the squad. The January window is a joke. It's now or never to get in the quality we need and that's at least 2 defenders, 2 midfielders and 2 strikers, each in the 30m region, nearer 200m. I know it sounds crazy but 100m is simply not enough so I hope your itk StockportBlue is just telling you what the owners want people to believe for now .... or he's just another fake.
I think some City fans need to realize that just because we pay 30 million for a player, it isn't going to automatically make him a world beater, and if we pay say only 5 million or something small for a player, its not going to make him rubbish either.
I know we will pay over the top because of who we are, but apart from the big names (Most of which are still out of our reach) they are not all going to be necessarily 30 million each. The value of a player is more a reflection of market forces then their actual potential or quality.
In the end, the amount of money we spend is totally irrelevant. We could theoretically with clever purchases and careful scouting, spend only 50 million and make big strides next season. We could also spend 200 million and get nowhere.
And can anybody tell me how many defenders go for 30 million quid?? With the exception of a notable few (I.e Ferdinand), very few, even the top quality defenders go for anything more then sort of 15 million at a maximum. Some of our best recruitments recently (I'm thinking of Corluka and Zabaleta) were what about 8 milion and 6 1/2 million each. I'm not saying that they are necessarily the level we should be looking at in terms of players to bring in (i.e. we want the nex level up), but the dollar value is far from a comprehensive measure of ap players ability or quality.
