City in 45 million pound double swoop for Roma duo De Rossi and Mexes. Both have agreed personal terms. I'll post details soon. Not sure if i'm excited about these two as I should be but its a start., two quality internationals. Think it will be officialy announced Friday week but the red tops will know about this well before then.

I have been told from a reasonably reliable source that citys transfer budget is between 80 and 100 million this summer.I cant see roughly 50% of it going on two players.

Wind up i think!!!!!

Fuckin Madrid again....

its just electoral bullshit mate

Quite honestly Real are cited as being 'in' for everyone with two legs atm.

We can't posssibly know the truth until Real Franco's election is done.

I'll be mighty disappointed if we are going to spend "only" 100 million this summer. This is our window to spend big and transform the squad. The January window is a joke. It's now or never to get in the quality we need and that's at least 2 defenders, 2 midfielders and 2 strikers, each in the 30m region, nearer 200m. I know it sounds crazy but 100m is simply not enough so I hope your itk StockportBlue is just telling you what the owners want people to believe for now .... or he's just another fake.

de rossi is a good player but Mexes is vastly overated would be as bad as when the barcodes spent big money on boumsong. Trust me if we sign mexes you'll be begging for dunne to play.

I think some City fans need to realize that just because we pay 30 million for a player, it isn't going to automatically make him a world beater, and if we pay say only 5 million or something small for a player, its not going to make him rubbish either.

I know we will pay over the top because of who we are, but apart from the big names (Most of which are still out of our reach) they are not all going to be necessarily 30 million each. The value of a player is more a reflection of market forces then their actual potential or quality.

In the end, the amount of money we spend is totally irrelevant. We could theoretically with clever purchases and careful scouting, spend only 50 million and make big strides next season. We could also spend 200 million and get nowhere.

And can anybody tell me how many defenders go for 30 million quid?? With the exception of a notable few (I.e Ferdinand), very few, even the top quality defenders go for anything more then sort of 15 million at a maximum. Some of our best recruitments recently (I'm thinking of Corluka and Zabaleta) were what about 8 milion and 6 1/2 million each. I'm not saying that they are necessarily the level we should be looking at in terms of players to bring in (i.e. we want the nex level up), but the dollar value is far from a comprehensive measure of ap players ability or quality.

What kind of sensible post is that! Really not what we need on this forum where panic seems to be the order of the day. Seriosuly, even if we only had £100m big deal. We've got players to get rid of as well so that will bring in money which no doubt will be added to the warchest. All will be OK. People just need to calm down.

I didn't mean 30m exactly each. I should have said we need 6 top class players for an average of 30m each. Lescott for example would be got for anything under 20, Villa/Eto/whoever for anything under 40.

I guess my point is that we shouldn't have a budget. We need to pay over the odds for now and we need top quality, otherwise we are not going to improve drastically. We are competing with Spurs and Villa primarily and they'll be strengthening squads that are just as good if not better than ours (otherwise we'd be way ahead of them already). Spurs will spend a fortune as usual. We have to outspend them big time. I don't think 100m will be enough. If it is great but I don't want us to not get the best because we're worried about our budget.

Once we make the step up we can be a bit more sensible in the market for now the only thing going for us is the money.
