I don't think it will, he strikes me as a strong-minded guy who would be superficially affected by something like that but stick to his guns if he'd already made a decision.

If he does 'squash the rumours', then I think it will probably be more the case that he was never gonna come in the first place.
 
He's 29, surely we should be going all out for martinez even if it costs ten mill more? The figures quoted for a 29 yr old cm are crazy how not many top cm players 30+ especially not box to box ones

You've got to feel for the lad missing out on his rightful recognition.
