If we could offload Tevez, Adebayor (for the cut-price we've allegedly offered Spurs if they take him in January), and Bridge in January that'd be something like 500k/week off the wage load, that's before minor sales like Onuoha (must be on around 40k/week). That'd free some space on the pay roll for De Rossi but I admire the club refusing to instantly give in to monster wage demands now, no one else will pay De Rossi those wages except a club I don't think he'd want to go to (Anzhi) so he has to choose, accept whatever Roma are offering or ask for a reasonable wage and come to Manchester.

The club paid unrealistic wages to attract players because the club wasn't very attractive. But After what the club did last season ( 3rd + FA Cup ) and what the club is doing this season ( 1st so far & Fav to win the Title) we should start paying more realistic wages.

As Blue Haze said " Anyone short of Iniesta's level is not worth 200 k a week " and I agree with him.

If you say he would cost us £25m but we are getting him for £5m that leaves (duh) £20m.

£20m over 4 years is (roughly) £100k/week. if we assume he would get £150k/week anyway his wage is costing us £10m over 4 years instead of £30m (£150k/week).

Total cost of ownership (assuming he would cost £25m) over 4 years

Full price = £25m fee + £30m wages @£150k/week = £55m
Jan Sale = £5m + £40m wages @£200k/week = £45m
More Realistic = £5m + £30m wages = £35m
Summer (free) + realistic wages = £0 + £30m = £30m

for a 28 year old italian international with 70 caps. We'd be looking at paying near that £30m fee without wages if his contract wasn't about to run out.

Strangely enough even on £200k/week it makes sense, anything less we pay in wages is just gravy and makes it more cost-effective for a class DM/CM. I've no idea how much he earns at Roma but if we can get him for £125/week we can knock another £5m off. He'd be a bargain, strangely enough, on £150k/week.

he wants to come and we want him but Roma are very reluctant to sell.

Three o'clock in the mornin'
And it looks like it's gonna be
Another sleepless night
I've been listenin' to your dreams
And gettin' very low
Wond'rin' what I can do

Maybe I'm bein' foolish
'Cause I haven't heard you mention
Anybody's name at all
How I wish I could be sure
It's me that turns you on
Each time you close your eyes
I've heard it said that dreamers never lie

(Chorus:)
You've been talkin' in your sleep
Sleepin' in your dreams
With some sweet lover
Holdin' on so tight
Lovin' her the way
You used to love me
Talkin' in your sleep
With lovin' on your mind

(Repeat 2nd verse & chorus)

You've been talkin' in your sleep

The trouble with buying mid-season is that it often takes the player half a season just to get used to MCFC/Premiership etc so you don't see the benefits until the next season.

If we buy, then it should be for the long term, or maybe an English based player who would have a smaller problem adapting

He probably wouldn't accept £125k/week let alone £125/week. Fuck me, I wouldn't even accept £125/week.

Ultimately we have to start paying "sensible" (by PL standard) wages. We might be able to buy him cheap but if we compensate for that by paying excessive wages it will just cause other targets and existing players (eg De Jong) to expect bigger wages.
