Why on earth would De Rossi sign a contract on those terms?

He stands to make a lot more from us right now.

With his agent now saying De Rossi intends to stay at Roma, I'm disappointed - it will be hard for us to have a chance to buy a midfielder of this quality in the next few years, especially at the price we could get him at.

The Independent claims that he has been learning English though.

Well the thing is that Claudio Pasqualin is not De Rossis agent and I don't think he works for De Rossi at all. So the stores in the british press are more a case of bad babelfish..

He is 28 years old. His price cant be higher now than 6-7 m pounds.

If he really thinks that he signs a new contract now with a buy out close with 3-4 times more than his actual price nowhere is crazy.

What a stupid business would be for us. Now when we need him really while Yaya is away (or Barry will be injured later on...) we dont sign him for 6 m, but end of season we will be in for him for 20 m pounds+.

Doesnt make sense, not just for us.

All in all I don't think he is that much keen on changing club. He would like to play for trophies of course it is hard with Rome but he has a legend status there. Last big contract to sign, of course he wants the best possible contract.

For 6-7 m pounds he would be a very good buy tho.

Here's what will win us the deal.

We're top of our league and look like winning the prem.

Why wouldn't he join us in order to win a trophy?

Daniele De Rossi will ignore a potentially lucrative move to Manchester City and sign a contract extension at Roma, according to his agent.

City boss Roberto Mancini has been a long-time admirer of the 28-year-old Italy midfielder, while Chelsea have also been linked with a bid.

But, despite drawn-out contract talks, De Rossi's emotional attachment to hometown club Roma appears to be too strong for him to consider a move elsewhere.

His representative, Claudio Pasqualin, instead expects an initial deal to be struck with Roma before a new contract is finalised in the summer when the existing terms expire.

"De Rossi wants to stay at Roma, even though, as a professional, he wants to optimise his (financial) situation," said Pasqualin.

"My feeling is that an agreement will be reached."

Pasqualin revealed he is still discussing with Roma the size of a release clause in the new deal.

"The stumbling block is the figure with which the player can release himself in June, which is a sufficient period within which to re-evaluate the situation," he said.

another ITK bites the dust, what's the backup plan to De Rossi then? Crossing fingers Hargreaves holds out until Yaya is back in 6 weeks?

Don't want him, don't need him, too old

He's not at all, he has at least 4 or 5 good years left in him. He's in his prime just like Yaya who he's the same age as. De Rossi will be great into his 30s, his game doesn't rely on pace.
