De Rossi

Could it all be a big ploy by both clubs and DDR, where he signs a new contract with a buy out clause agreed with city thus receiving higher wages and then come the summer city sign him for the pre-arranged buy out clause/

Sound plausible?

I don´t think that would help City because we will end up paying a much bigger transfer fee. It`s in DDRs best interests to come now or stay until the end of the season and leave on a free. He can then get a bigger signing on fee.

Remember we signed De Jong for a large fee to ensure we got him, when he was supposedly out of contract a few months later. Would it really be so bad if we paid £15m for De Rossi? Imagine the alternative is not 'get him in 6 months for free'- because that was off the table- but 'don't get him at all'.

Yes it would be really bad if we paid 15m for De Rossi.

Right now as a club that's on our way to being an established top 4 team, there is no reason for us to be overpaying transfer fees like the old days where clubs would be holding out for more money because they knew we really wanted/needed that player.

I have no doubt that given the circumstances of FFP, we would not spend 15 for someone who we can we can on a free later because there is no need to.

Not a chance he will go on a free, the lads a native Roman,he will make sure if the deal happens that Roma benefit from his departure, they made him the player he is today.

Thing is mate we need him now more than we will need him in the summer.

completely disagree; if this is the signing that helped give us our first title in 44 years it would be the snip of all time - the extra earnings potential from winning the league rather than finishind 2nd/3rd would absolutely dwarf £15M

I know. I guess i just don't like overpaying in that type of situation. But he is one of the best cm in the world and regardless of the price, he would make us that much better. Perhaps its narrowminded of me to think that we're overpaying considering in normal circumstances he would be worth a lot more than 15m.
