Remember we signed De Jong for a large fee to ensure we got him, when he was supposedly out of contract a few months later. Would it really be so bad if we paid £15m for De Rossi? Imagine the alternative is not 'get him in 6 months for free'- because that was off the table- but 'don't get him at all'.

We got laughed at for that and still do,when in reality De Jong made an agreement with the club which was reported that unless someone paid the money he would sign a new contract at the end of the window and move in the summer, so we would have had to pay the money anyway. We just paid it there and then and made sure he didn't talk to anyone else.

I can see a similar thing happening here with De rossi being there so long and wanting to get something like he is worth for Roma and all to calm the uproar from the fans a little because there's no doubt there would be one and we will become the most hated club in there world in Roma
I hope we have a chance good player he could probably play in any league, I think we will only make 1 signing and he would be a class above who will be available.

If £15m guaranteed him in this window, at a crucial point of the season, you'd pay the money.

I have no doubt that given the circumstances of FFP, we would not spend 15 for someone who we can we can on a free later because there is no need to.
Prestwich Blue (a poster with impeccable financial credentials and a BBC expert to boot) has repeatedly assured us that the sale of Tevez, Bridge & Onuoha have no impact on our ability to meet the FFP criteria. So all this "we must sell before we buy" mantra is clearly misguided if he is right.

One or two need to think of the bigger picture and not get too bogged down with valuations or resale values. Bobby needs to consider Champions League next season to. Bringing DDR in now allows him to bed in now with team mates. Of course the league is a priority but if bringing DDR in now helps us progress as a club not only in the Premiership but also in future comps then his resale value is irrelevant and his current value (inc wages) needs to be proportionate to the rest of the squad.

Fingers crossed that we get DDR or someone of that ilk.

In Bob we trust.

Kevin Strootman. Cheaper and younger box-to-box midfielder.

And not nearly as good or experienced.

It's a misnomer to suggest that we bought De Jong for a huge fee when he would have been free a few months later, he actually signed a new deal just before we bought him so that free option had gone.

I hadn't realised De Rossi was out of contract in the summer and, as such, potentially available for a pretty reasonable fee. Providing his wages don't prove to be extortionate (which is a very real issue) then I'd be all for getting him in at City, he's certainly good enough.

there is also in tevez's case he is taking up a squad position which is currently being wasted
