If it's true we could get him for £15m we should go for him as it would be brilliant piece of business, a pretty complete footballer.

However we can't pay him top dollar with the FFP rules coming in, would have to be on £85K P/W maximum for me.

I would agree with you.I think De Rossi is a fantastic player but he has always been very commited to Roma and has been very loyal in the past when top clubs have expressed an intrest.Would he really leave at this stage?

Would be a fantastic signing for any club but unless we are moving on Barry i could not see why we would even contemplate signing him.

I think in my opinion we could do better but thats just me. I haven't seen him play much but even from his YouTube videos he doesn't really look that good and I assume YouTube videos usually have all the best bits.

You obviously know nil about De Rossi he is an absolute rock of a player, not a flair player so youtube is not going to highlight his ability.

NDJ
Xabi Alonso
Makelele
Diarra
Vieira
Pirlo
Scholes
Xavi
Marcos Senna

All of these players were centre midfielders who sat back. Some more creative, the rest had a more defensive role. None have notable pace or aerial ability. De Rossi doesn't need those attributes, but is better in the air than all those I listed. For £15m, bring him in. He is better than Barry, and I'm someone who thinks Barry is a great player.

De Rossi better in the air than vieira? Pull the other one. I think he's a great player (although unlikely to come to city) but how crucial was vieira's aerial ability in the fa cup?

as a follow lazio, i have had the unfortunate opportunity to see how important of a player he is to roma, he is a deep sitting midfielder who can dictate play, much like xabi when he was playing for the dippers, besides his long passing abilities he has a killer right foot and is not afraid to take a shot. he is very good in the air especially in the attacking third on free kicks etc... those are the goods that i have noticed over the years, unfortunately his pace is off from the prem standards and would take a while to get used too, no brainer as most of you have pointed that out, and from my biased opinion he has a shitty attitude shared with his mentor totti, ask balotelli. all in my opinion of course.

Looks like he might be using us for a new contract (subject to goal.com!):

The Italy international is demanding improved terms on a new contract and is also seeking assurances that the club's new owners want to challenge for titles in the near future

Daniele De Rossi could quit Roma for Manchester City this summer unless the Italian side offer him a bumper new contract and assurances about the club's ambitions, Goal.com has learned.

The midfielder's current deal expires in 2012 and Roma run the risk of losing him on a free transfer next year unless he receives a substantial pay-rise and a clear outline of new owner Thomas DiBenedetto's future plans for the capital club.

Roberto Mancini's side are ready to put together a €23 million deal to secure De Rossi's signature and can also significantly bump up his wages.

De Rossi would agree to sign a contract extension with Roma should he receive the certainties he craves and the club are believed to have offered to increase the Italy international's wage from €4m to €6m per year.

However, he could run down his current contract or quit his home-town club this summer for higher wages and Champions League football at City if his demands are ignored.

"Manchester City are ready to offer Roma €23m for De Rossi and can give him €9m per annum over four to five years," a source close to Roma told Goal.com. "De Rossi is aware of Mancini's interest and his attempts to bring him to City.

"He wants economic and technical guarantees from Roma for him to stay. If these guarantees are not met he will not sign the new contract. At the moment, he is very uncertain as Roma have been lukewarm with him in terms of this new deal. The new owners do not want to take on heavy financial commitments before looking into all the club's accounts," the source revealed.

DEADLINE

A new Roma have emerged following the sale of the club by the Sensi family to American investor DiBenedetto, with former Barcelona B coach Luis Enrique now in charge of first-team affairs. Nonetheless, it is understood that De Rossi has a clear deadline in mind for his concerns to be met.

"By the end of July this situation should be resolved," the source disclosed. "Now the ball is in Roma's court. They now have a week to give De Rossi the guarantees he wants over the team for the future. They will also have to offer him more money in terms of a new deal."

City are prepared to push for the signing of De Rossi despite the uncertainty over Carlos Tevez's future and ongoing attempts to sign the Atletico Madrid forward Sergio Aguero.

Oasis-loving hard-as-nails midfielder

Castles seems to think we view him as an alternative for Nasri, which I find strange.

Would we be getting the underpar De Rossi from last season or the real De Rossi if we bought him?
