We will do everything possible, our goal is to reach an agreement as soon as possible, before the start of the season" : these are the words of Claudio Fenucci, CEO of Rome, has updated the situation on the renewal of the contract - which expires in 2012 - linking the midfielder with the yellow and red."

No suprise if there is strong interest from City. Mancini has made it clear he wants another defensive midfielder as we only have 2 atm in Barry and De Jong after Vieira retired, altough yaya and Kompany can play there. Will not be suprised at all if he is our next signing

unless there has already been work done to it, there is simply not enough time to do this transfer this summer. Italian teams take forever.

Not to mention De Rossi means Yaya or NDJ riding bench. Neither of these 3 are 'rotational' players.

As can Zabaleta, also known as Mr Versatility. Or Mr Steel.

Arsène Wenger makes £22m bid for Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila.

Now there's a player I wouldn't mind if City hi-jacked. Young, already got plenty of caps for France looking sharp. Buy for the future.

I'd personally rather take M'vila over De Rossi. Great backup both for Yaya and De Jong.

haha. Do it for the sake of mind fucking them. Oh & Eden Hazard please!

De Rossi's champs league experience would be welcome imo, I would also like a centre half with similar experience or who is more comfortable on the ball. Lescott has settled and improved but still lacks quality on the ball. In terms of attacking the ball and battling he is as good as anyone but his distribution is poor and at times his positioning gets found out. This could be costly.

Man City given no encouragement over Roma target De Rossi
24.08.11 | Dave Williams

Roma coach Luis Enrique insists Daniele De Rossi wants to remain at the club despite the Italy international being tracked by Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini.

De Rossi has yet to extend his contract with the Serie A outfit, with his current deal ending next summer.

Mancini reportedly described the 28 year old as "absolutely perfect" for his club although he too expects the midfielder to remain in Rome next season.

"Daniele's contract expires next year and he is in negotiations to extend it," said Luis Enrique.

"He wants to remain and the club wants to keep him and I can only speak highly of him.

"The two sides must find an agreement."

Drop De Jong and play Dzeko. Don't need De Jong and Rossi in the same team imho

no. But 35 million pounds of backups are already here in Barry and Milner.

The right salary offer floated past De Rossi's agent could certainly spice up his discussions with Roma re a new contract! You have to wonder why his contract has run down to this point - does he want to stay? or are Roma relaxed he'll stay.

Sorry to piss on everyone's chips but De Rossi aint going anywhere. Roma born and bred and future Roma captain

Yeah yeah, everyone always says that, but he's clearly allowing his contract to run down, and it has been suggested that he wants out of Italy completely now to get his personal life back on track... So this comment, while true up until earlier this year, is now patently untrue.

Clearly not going to happen this window though, but I maintain hope that we will be in for him soon. Fantastic player, one of the very best IMO. Don't want him to go to a rival, that's for sure...
