About to turn 29 and now under a 5 year contract it's likely that with van persie the numbers just won't stack up

Midfielders are ageing like wines. they only get better in time (Pirlo, Xavi).
Where as you cant say the same for strikers.

DDr i is a leader, RVP isnt.

DDR can play multiple positions, two of which we are in dire need of. Cant say the same about RVP

Your point about him being able to play centre half and centre mid is a good one that had skipped my mind and would probably make this deal more of a go-er. I'd probably prefer to get someone younger like Javi martinez in but if that doesn't happen then a signing that could cover centre half and centre mid would leave more money for a striker (Cavani) and Attacking midfielder/winger (Bale).

De Rossi, Cavani and Bale, don't think too many would argue with that!

Dont want to get too giddy but he is perfect for us.

An upgrade on NDJ (who is the midfield bollocks of our team ).

A true Roman Warrior who would take our midfield up another level again.

I.M.O. only Barca's midfield to reel in.

I'd say there are only 3 players in world football who can play CDM and CB at our level.

Javi Martinez
Javi Garcia
Daniele De Rossi

We've been linked with all 3.

I think the "De Jong is the best at what he does..." brigade might have to revise their thinking if De Rossi joined us...

He would be the perfect player to offer the combative skills of De Jong + a much better range of passing + real leadership on the pitch...

This would be a massive signing.

With his passing ability, his fight in midfield and his leadership skills he would be an amazing addition to our squad, especially for the champions league.

I would love him to be here but I also understand why he'd want to stay with Roma. It's a shame but I can respect his decision to stay.

The midfielder has previously been linked with Manchester City and Manchester United and claimed he had received several offers to defect to the Premier League.

He said: "I have received many offers from English football. And I must say that I feel attraction for it.

"I like English football very much. I think now it's probably more interesting than Italian football.

"There are lots of outstanding and talented players, as is the case for Spain as well."

De Rossi's versatility makes him particularly attractive for potential suitors, with the 28-year-old having played both in defence and midfield for club and country this season.

He admitted he preferred the midfield anchor role, a position that would put him in direct confrontation with his "idol" in Sunday's quarter-final.

De Rossi revealed he dreamt of playing more like England captain Gerrard, who has shone for the Three Lions during Euro 2012.

He said: "Steven Gerrard has always been my idol. Since 10 years ago, he is among the best in the world.

"You see Gerrard defending and attacking here and there. I would like to be able to play more like that."

Definitely sounds like he's on his way to the prem..

This is to much to hope for.

I won't be disappointed again.

Same :(

He would be the one player in the 'reasonably attainable' pool I would sign before any other though.

De Rossi would be an unreal signing for City both for a midfielder and a CB option, I think he has been Italy's best defender during the Euros and that is not his natural position plus he could ping balls around the field all day! Imagine him and Yaya next to each other? OH MY WORD!

He says his idol is Steven Gerrard and I also think that in terms of staying at his childhood club wether he wins anything or not. He is Roman through and through however if he was to go to an English club I would imagine it would be to play under an Italian manager or with a team with Italian players I would of thought and we fit that bill perfectly!

Would be a perfect signing, cover for Yaya and CB, could even start ahead of Gaz Baz (although I do love Barry).

Although he's 28, I reckon we'd still get a lot of good years out of him. I could see staying at top playing level for another 4-5 years.

It would be unreal. I don't want to imagine it too much, cause it will make me upset when I realize it's not going to happen.

I have been very impressed with his performances at the Euros. He could be an excellent signing for our CL challenge. RM has been after him for some time. A flexible top quality player.

He is would be so passionate and the thought of him and yaya destroying the rags midfield is too much. Sign him up!
