I guess Madrid were better informed about Diaz's preferences than the posters on here.
No one forced him to sign for Real. If you go to certain club its because thats what you want. Who wants to join a club you dont really want to? Especially when he know he would have loads of options due to being free agent in the summer.

Summer in German media it was reported that they are offering him £320k a week. So not exactly a surprise he is going there. Ironic that Bayern has to attract players with money.

We can't match that or even get close as that would mean Sterling, Aguero, KDB, Laporte would ask for more.

June 2021 is when his contract expires.

Wow, pretty clear he is off then.

And Madrid had no idea about that and were stupid enough to pay millions for him?

What if Real decided to sign him precisely because Diaz would have had many offers from big clubs as a free agent and might have chosen another club? Maybe they were in a better position to know his plans than fans like us?

Football clubs make stupid decisions all the time. Again no one forced Diaz to sign for Real especially considering his position being free agent in the summer. Yet he still went there, to me that suggests he strongly favoured Real over any other club.

Even the biggests clubs make stupid decisions sometimes, but it's natural to suppose Real had reasons to think that Diaz might opt for another club as a a free agent and decided to make sure he is theirs by paying for him and not waiting 6 months. To pretend we know better than them what Diaz's plans were is pointless imo.

You are entitled of your opinion though. I think we will get over 60m for Sane if we sell him next January. Hope he resigns with us though.

Ideally would prefer Leroy to stay , but i think he has been made an offer he cant refuse by the German Rags , it would be nice if PSG came in for him matched the German offer and paid the £100m he is worth , that would really piss Rummenige off , or maybe a deal with Mbappe , Sane and £50m would make the disappointment of losing Leroy bearable :)

Pep didn't do anything wrong, that doesn't mean it was the right or logical decision though. It was very unfortunate and nobody could have envisaged it happening, but you ran the risk as soon as you decided to select a player that clearly had one foot out the door, despite Bayern not having made an official offer. People can turn a blind eye to that and be completely naive, like they were being in the summer, but it's clear the offer was coming once they had sorted everything with the player - which they allegedly had.

If it was the start of the league campaign rather than a glorified friendly I'd have more sympathy, but playing him has seemingly put us ~£50m out of pocket, which as I said in my original comment, would have gone a long way to have paid for a CB alone (not to mention the change for a replacement) and Sane leaving would have opened up a foreign spot, meaning we wouldn't have been stuck over signing Maguire at CB.
You can't predict injuries though, they had also been tapping him up in public, they tried to get him to ask to leave to knock down the price, scummy tactics, according to pep he didn't,ask to leave,in absence of that and an offer it's business as usual for us and the player plays,we get on with getting him fit for the season
