Deal agreed with Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane - €60m (including add-ons)

It was obvious from last summer and it was stupid of the club to allow him to play that game with a move on the horizon. Mahrez not being available isn't a good excuse when you have Jesus on the bench (who ended up coming on for him) or a host of academy players that were involved in the pre-season.

We'll be taking a fairly substantial hit on his transfer fee - what would have been a figure of over £100m is now going to be a fair chunk less - probably somewhere around the £60-70m with 1 year left and coming off the back of a significant injury. Money that could have been reinvested into a CB and replacement for Sane, now we'll be looking at a fee which will just cover a top CB.

Club dropped the ball with this. Bayern and Sane are also to blame, but I feel that Pep/the board let their pride get the better of them with this one when it was clear as day he wanted out.
He is our player, kev played right up until we brought him, bayern made loads of noise tapping him up but they never made an offer for him,pep did nothing wrong playing him

We should be unsettling all the decent Bayern players, I hate them with a passion through the way they have gone about unsettling Sane. EUFA should have told them pay City's asking price or f**k off

Where's he been the last few months, in Manchester or back in Germany? Are players who are recovering from injury required by contract to be checking in at the club or can Pep ok them going off home or a few weeks?
I don't think it's like checking in with your parole officer.

Pep didn't do anything wrong, that doesn't mean it was the right or logical decision though. It was very unfortunate and nobody could have envisaged it happening, but you ran the risk as soon as you decided to select a player that clearly had one foot out the door, despite Bayern not having made an official offer. People can turn a blind eye to that and be completely naive, like they were being in the summer, but it's clear the offer was coming once they had sorted everything with the player - which they allegedly had.

If it was the start of the league campaign rather than a glorified friendly I'd have more sympathy, but playing him has seemingly put us ~£50m out of pocket, which as I said in my original comment, would have gone a long way to have paid for a CB alone (not to mention the change for a replacement) and Sane leaving would have opened up a foreign spot, meaning we wouldn't have been stuck over signing Maguire at CB.

Any player can get injured at any time

Of course they can. That's why you don't play a £100m+ asset when he's close to a move away. That's the literal point of my argument.

It was a community shield game - a glorified friendly - there was no need risking it.

I personally have no problem with not having signed Maguire, and his fee was fucking ridiculous imho.

Which is why I was saying Sane's sale would have opened up the possibility to sign a foreign CB at a more sensible price because his sale would have opened up a foreign spot in our squad.
