Of course they can. That's why you don't play a £100m+ asset when he's close to a move away. That's the literal point of my argument.

It was a community shield game - a glorified friendly - there was no need risking it.
And my point is he could have got injured in the next game or in training or shopping in Lidl, and it would still have potentially lost us £100m. You can't not play people for fear of injury

Which is why I was saying Sane's sale would have opened up the possibility to sign a foreign CB at a more sensible price because his sale would have opened up a foreign spot in our squad.

Maybe but academic I'm afraid .

Probably a lot easier as a poster than it is as a manager trying to deal with all the complexities.

I have accepted he is going, but upset by the manner and part that Bayern, the German League , and National manager have played, and almost every other fucker in Germany it seems , although refusing a contract for as long as he has done is a pretty big fuck off from Sane himself.

It's not ideal but I'm sure we will be ok .

If you think of the money he has lost already by not signing a new contract with us it must be pretty clear he is off, say he was getting a rise of £80k per week and he could have been earning this for over 12 months that is a lot of coin to miss out on. The wages on offer at Bayern must be pretty impressive for him to turn down a contract offer from us.

When does his contract actually run out? my worry is that he doesn't go at the end of the season but holds out for another 12 months and goes next January when Bayern would get him for peanuts.

We sold Diaz for 20m 6 months before the end of his contract.

Summer in German media it was reported that they are offering him £320k a week. So not exactly a surprise he is going there. Ironic that Bayern has to attract players with money.

We can't match that or even get close as that would mean Sterling, Aguero, KDB, Laporte would ask for more.

June 2021 is when his contract expires.
