This is unusual for you. There are those I expect this from. But certainly not you.

There is nothing dumb here really. I'm sure Sane's people are in contact with his wish destination club. I'm sure they've made him aware of the bonus he'd get if he doesn't make it harder to sign him.

Yes it sucks for us, but thats life. 2 years ago we had the leverage. So he kept quiet and worked. He wasn't favored but didn't whine. Just bid his time.

Now he is in a position of power and can dictate his future. Bayern will come in with an offer and if we refuse, they'd come with an offer in January ( which at that point we'd have to accept) or lose him for nothing.

I know the dislike for Bayern makes this painful for some (Pep included). But that's life. He played his cards the way he wanted. What If Bayern offers him a 30 million bonus instead of paying City.

Like I said, we should have sold him the minute he didn't sign. We didn't, and now he has all the leverage.

He is only in a position of power if he can remain healthy and prove he can recapture his best form. If he suffers another injury between now and leaving will Bayern make good on their promises?

The only “position of power” he has is a financial one and even that is only if you close one eye and pretend he hasn’t spent the last two years earning minimum half of what he could’ve been. If Bayern don’t pay the money this summer then he’s totally screwed. Might not be a top player again until his late 20’s.

But is his financial position so strong?? Speaking out loud, not to you Billy necessarily if he stays until the end of his contract does anyone really think Bayern will still pay him 300k+ per week and give him a 5 year deal. No chance they give such an amazing contract to a player that has barely played in 2 years. Too much risk involved. 2 years is a long time in the football world.

if we have the money to go for Havertz, as has been mooted, then surely we can afford Sancho, CAS and Sane permitting? Especially with the 15% and first refusal
As ever mate, everything also depends on outgoings. Got to make space in the squad which is never easy for us, not unless we agree to get dry bummed which generally we don’t.

But how do you square that with the fact that he turned down a contract to triple his wages in summer 2018? He had just won young player of the year (even though sterling had a better season) so how was he undervalued then?
I'm not sure he felt Pep trusted him. Even after Winning young player, he was offered a contract extension (the extension wasn't going to affect the 18-19 season. So he took his time to see how things went ( many players did this including Sterling and Gundogan) while the former concluded they were better here and signed. He concluded the opposite.

And for what it's worth, many here agrees with his view. The number of "why isn't Same starting" posts are enough to fill a thread.

He too thought (wrongly I might add) that he should be a starter and a Star rather than an afterthought substitute who only started every other game.

Time will tell. He’s already 4 months recovered from an ACL but has played zero competitive football. At the earliest it’ll be October if he gets his move in the next window. That will be 9 months recovered without real football. That’s already a huge uphill battle. Now factor another potential season on the sidelines and maybe you’re right. Bayern don’t pay up as he hopes.

I really can’t shake the feeling he is too dumb to see the ramifications.

I sense Bayern is already satisfied with what they know. Injury to anyone harms them. But barring that, my sense is he has a pre-contract already waiting..

Agreed there is something about his attitude or mentality that Pep hasn’t bought into. No doubt he has the talent and potential but if the attitude doesn’t match then longer term we’re better without him

There’s no greater sign of “trust” than here’s double your wages after 1 year at the club. None.
