2 years on 60k in return for a lucrative signing on fee - ok

As I say, if he wants to run down his contract, there is nothing we can do
2 years of not playing any first team football for him right now, would be a terrible decision. bayern definitely would look at other options in that time. running down his contract is probably the least likely scenario considering how much attention is on this situation.

Maybe rated by transfermarkt.co.uk, Dembele and Sané on £90m, Neymar on 162m, Mbappe on 180m.

BVB was lucky Barca sold Neymar for 200m back then, 2017 was special.

And Chelsea just sold Hazard for 90m to Real. Chelsea didn't say not for sale, because Hazard wanted to join Real.
Transfermarkt almost never translates to real life fees well, it's almost always lower than the actual fee.

It doesn't matter if BVB were lucky, the market is what it is and it's what dictates that Sané is worth more than is being offered(they know this).

Hazard had one year left, was on much higher wages, is older and the transfer fee was €130 million which is £116m not £90m. In fact it's far closer to the £120m I suggested than it is the £90m some here say we should take.

Bayern are desperate for a replacement, we are not desperate to sell. Sané is not our highest paid player, his wages are relatively low which puts us in an even stronger position.

From Sané's point of view, he might as well sign an extension if Bayern don't offer what's due this window. He'll get a guaranteed pay rise whatever happens, with a release clause that everyone is happy with and leave next summer on good terms. Or he can stay on his lower tier wage for at least the next year because he wouldn't accept the extension(he owes Bayern nothing) and City will probably offload him to the highest bidder next summer. Bayern could move on since they don't have 2 years to wait if they insist on trying to give us lowball offers and he might fall down the pecking order at City. In which case he doesn't have 2 years to throw away either, he's entering an important stage of his career.

We wont stand in his way if he wants to leave but we are no mugs(I hope).

In short £90m is nowhere near enough. We'll get that next summer if he wants to go.

Sell him for £120m, buy Mbappe for £180m... £60 net spend on the best young forward in the world. I'd take that any day. Leroy is replacable.

But it's two full seasons, he's worth way more than £90m to buy him out of a contract that long. That figure is more acceptable for a 1 year contract(but as the above poster says, Hazard to Madrid might suggest otherwise even there) with a player as highly rated as Sané with so many years ahead of him.

Also Bayern have very few options out there, even the commentary from their game last night was stating how urgent they are to replace Robben and Ribbery. They can't afford to wait 2years. Most of their other options are off the table. We should be stating what he's worth immediately and that we aren't looking to sell... £120m is quite reasonable in this market I thought. As I said look at the fees Chelsea got for players surplus to requirements in recent years, never mind a player as good as Sané who we want to keep. We are way way behind in this area and it needs to change. It's more about our lack of nous in the way things work, we might not be looking to sell at all but we should be protecting ourselves by making sure if he does go we get the highest fee possible by making the right statements.

The contract we signed him on at least appears to have been smartly done at least, we just aren't making a point of how strong our position is publicly for some reason.
The difference with City is that we retain most of our star players until we want rid. Chelsea got top dollar for top players they didn't want to lose like Hazard.

My point is they always get good fees on players they want to keep and often on players they want to sell/have to sell.
They couldn't wait to get rid of Morata who had a stinker at Chelsea... £50.40m.
Costa was desperate to leave, they had to sell... £59.40m
Matic and Oscar were similar stories, brilliant business from their point of view.

Judging by players like Nasri, Jovetic and probably more I'm forgetting, we do not have the same knack for it yet and don't look like we are improving in that area.

I suppose what you are saying is true, typically we have kept hold of them. Sané if he does go will have to be handled right or we will get shafted is all I'm saying. We have a lot of good players on our books and if this trend continues, we will have to get better at this or we'll have missed a trick. This is how we beat them at their own game and take all their excuses away.

Not a prayer Mbappe will be sold for £180m.

It doesnt do any harm to try

he's probably leaving and it's down to pt. can see city handling the loss a little too professionally but the disrespect has to be felt.

...potentially lost sancho, brahim and sane. hard really to criticize any decision, though.

except in sane's case, maybe the first CL game vs spurs? more to that decision in pep's mind than in mine I'm sure but would've thought that was a great game for sane to start.

short-sighted if we do get rid? although not totally in our control, if we act decent.

I guess this is something we should grow increasingly used to with our wealth of talent (losing potential world-beaters).
