Death

There is no life without death, and no death without life.

I think once you accept death is coming it helps both your decision making and your outlook and that acceptance is a good thing.

Some people aren't bothered. My mother-in-law is 100, and actually wants to go. When told of the Duke of Edinburgh's death she said "Isn't he lucky! I wish it were me"

She hasn't got dementia, but is very frail and confined to bed, and says she has no reason to go on. She has no interest in anything which might take her mind off things.

The consolation is that when she does go, it will be what she wanted. It's when you don't want to go yet, but you pop your clogs, it's a bit of a bugger.

But I can't get my head round the idea that someone actually wants to go, if thy aren't actually in unbearable pain.. I feel sorry for my Mrs who goes almost daily to try and cheer her up.
Frail and confined to bed is no fun and old people get tired

As I come upto retirement even though I will be relatively young at 53 my daughter will only be 10, I’d like to think I’d see grandkids, my gran died at the age of 100 last year and my mum is still going strong at 72, she’s definitely got her genes, so you never know. Ive seen enough death in the last 20 years some in the worst ways possible that i know you could walk out the door and boom you’re gone. I hope I get to go in my sleep peacefully at 110 and not some shit cancer way, horrible fucking disease.
Dont get the whole "I want to go when im +100" idea. There is no way , when you're that old, that you can fully take care of yourself with no help whatsoever. I rather be dead than have someone change my diaper , in all honesty. I hope I go before that.

I'm terrified and always will be.
You should watch this video , its short. Also you should search Alan Watts on youtube and listen to his lectures , they might help you a lot.

Things to consider when you fear death:

1. The Universe is 13,8 billions old, for most of that time you weren't even alive.

2. If you were to live forever you'd get extremly bored with life , you would experience everything for infinite times. You would have seen and done everything for infinite times. Life would eventually wear you out mentally knowing that there is nothing more to experience. Theres no new joy to be had.
Imagine having 1 mil children during your life time. The first few children would give you an amazing feeling but after the 450th child you would start to feel nothing (or rather much sooner). You would feel like an insomniac begging for some sleep, you'd beg for death.

3. People fear death mostly because they don't know what happens after, its fear of the unkown. But we know that we came from somewhere (into existence) , we came from that unkown , so it can't be all that bad.
Its all sounds like a cycle : you come from non-existence -- you live -- you go back to non-existence. There's really no reason for fear.

4. Let's assume that when you die it all just ends , no more happiness , no more joy so on. At the same time all the negative experiences will also end , no more pain , suffering , frustration so on. Wouldn't you consider it a fair trade ?
