Declan Rice

Would you swap Rodri for him?
No, but with Fernandinho on his way out, I’d be looking at Rice as a fantastic replacement. He can play 6 or 8, and can cover at centre back if necessary. Would allow Rodri to be rested without significantly weakening the starting line up or having to move others into a position that doesn’t suit.

I don't think that's realistic. It's hard to see Rodri playing less than 40-50 games a season. Which leaves very little for his understudy, and leaves the club in a position where they are unlikely to spend the sort of fee required to sign Rice as an understudy.

He doesn't have the ability to play as an 8 in this team unless we're talking league cup games against lower league opposition. Maybe if Stones were going and there was a h/g requirement we could consider him as a CB, but with Stones' form that's off the table.

Basically, Rice is a player who has no place in the City squad and has no real links to us other than a few people fancy him to replace a player we've already replaced. Funny stuff indeed.

IMO if they were to read Bluemoon they’d be more amused with the levels of “support” afforded actual city players in the player forum than opinions in the transfer forum about players who have no connection whatsoever to City.

Ferguson once described it as the “cow in the other field” syndrome. For some people they’re always prettier.

We have the best herd in the country, which means any additions need to be prize winning stock at minimum.

Quite frankly the nonsense talked about our players is infuriating at times and often best countered by the question of ‘who would replace them and why?’

Most of our squad is almost irreplaceable while maintaining the level of quality, and learning the way we play is not easy; this is where the academy will start paying off soon - not the same quality to begin with but having an understanding of how we play, and this will give some promising talent time to raise their game.

As the chairman has always stated we were looking / and (IMO) in the position of having two world class stars for each position, youngsters of the required standard coming through - and therefore only go to the market for outstanding, top of the game, one off talents now.

Most players discussed as being linked aren’t anyway near this standard bar 3 obvious ones this year.

I'm also struggling with "we need to replace Fernandinho". We've replaced him.

"We need cover for Fernandinho". Who was cover for Fernandinho when Fernandinho was Fernandinho?

Oh yeah, that fella who is Pep's blind spot, can't run, can't tackle, can't shoot, can't pass. But miraculously was KEY in City winning 14 on the bounce from the 6 position in the 18/19 record breaking historic season City had.

Eric Garcia did all that?
