Someone smarter than me, ok with more football knowledge than me said recently that our players all bring subtly different things to the team.

We will never replace Fernandinho, we changed to Rodri, which subtly changed the game in midfield in many ways, but while sticking to some key principles that pep has - in particular with the attacking midfield movement in the half spaces.

We also see the same in defence depending on who is in form, stones is subtly different to Laporte which means changes to the dynamic when the ball is brought out of defence.

It also changes the way Cancelo plays having Dias in the back line, which in turn changes the attacking midfielders movement.

It’s all fluid FFS, there is no such thing as a like for like replacement of anyone. Ferna for me was the zabba replacement, all heart, steel, consistency, under valued by some and bleeds blue.

It’s a silly argument to have ‘who will replace who’ but just to put it out there again, ferna will not be replaced but we wil do subtly different things based on the opposition rodri as the main choice but Gundo dropping back in other games to play that role and create different spaces up front.
